Well if as reported in the Times the government are toying with 2 week quarantine in a locked down hotel at your expense nobody is going on holiday anywhere!

I can't work from home either. I don't understand your point. Unless you have posted on this thread to pontificate that we shouldn't be booking holidays because we are spreading the virus?
I’m not pontificating, I’m close to booking our summer holiday to travel in August but I wouldn’t book to go abroad in March when, for example, EasyJet have cancelled all their flights until late March.

My original comment was that I think it is optimistic to hope to go on a foreign holiday in March.

We have just bought a lodge down in Cornwall. So plenty of holidays to come in the future.
In the distant future if you comply with the present government guidelines about travel and stay local.

R.
Hopefully come March/April we will be down there so not the "distant future" in my eyes.

We have family who live in Falmouth. We've been visiting them regularly out of season for 20+ years. For next visit, the hotel is booked for 5 days at the end of March. We think there's no chance we'll be there. Next planned visit will likely be November and we reckon the possibility is 50/50 at best.

R.

I have a summer holiday booked in Cornwall that I'm fairly hopeful for.

I have a rebooted trip to Euro Disney in Easter which was meant to happen last year, I doubt very much that will come off.

I was looking at flights to New York for December and they are really cheap for Business Class but im just not confident enough o make a booking sadly.

It is interesting. I have a business specialising in sailing holidays in Greece, and we are about 60% booked up for this summer (all clients from the UK). There is a huge appetite for overseas holidays this year, and clearly a lot of people think it will be possible.

August is currently our quietest month, with the other months well booked up. A lot of clients (50+ age category) are thinking they will be vaccinated by May, and so will be able to travel as normal.

Without a doubt, bookings are slower than normal though.

We wait with trepidation!

Interesting. Why do you think August is so quiet?

If it’s business class, presumably flexible ticketing so less risk on you? Might be worth taking advantage if it’s a bargain.

Have a couple of cheaper 3-4 day cottage rentals in the early spring. Some doubt on these but worth the risk.

Booked 2 weeks split Norfolk and Lake District in the summer. Reasonable to assume these will happen.

I didnt look into the terms of the booking I must admit, it was with BA and I know historically they do various fares in Business Class tickets. Given they were reduced price business class seats I would assume they had restrictions on changes but I confess I didnt read into it.

Well, out of August, tends to be couples or groups in their more senior years, and spreading the cost of the boat charter between 2 or 3 couples. August tends to be mum and dad footing the whole cost, so potentially a bigger financial risk if any disruption I would think.

Just moved my March hotel booking in Valencia from 2021 to 2022 - having originally booked it in November 2019 for March 2020 and taken the slightly cheaper non-refundable option. Quite hopeful that March 2022 will be a goer.

Undecided on 2021 at the moment. I don't think I want to splash out on a holiday when mask wearing is still a thing. Yes, it's tolerable, but it detracts from the overall experience somewhat.

I’ve got a trip to New York end of March. Oops.

I’ve got a feeling flights will be open then for us, so I think we’ll have to go then sit in an apartment for a week as New York will be in a worst state than us.

What are the odds that when Europe comes out of this wave, we see Vaccine certification travel only between countries ?

Clearly getting the vaccination out is the first priority, but I hope someone somewhere in government is working on this. As far as I am aware - and I’ll be delighted to be proven wrong - no cards or proof of vaccination are being issued just now. Presumably it is being recorded on some system, so can be turned into certification later?

I would find that preferable to mooching around in Wakefield.

You get like an appointment card which shows which vaccine you've had and the dates. But it doesn't have your name on it though,

Looking at St Lucia or Barbados for September - more in hope than expectation, so studying cancellation policies closely. We are sufficiently elderly that we will have been vaccinated by then, but of course that does not mean we are immune from carrying or spreading, so many counties may still have significant measures in place.
That is still hurricane season, you need late November onwards but remember, you will be on a plane full of people for 7+hours.
Realistically, I would book Feb or March next year, I doubt I will see the inside of the office until the end of this year to say the least.

I know what you mean regarding weather, but have been several times to the Caribbean in September, and apart from the very impressive rain from the tail of a tropical storm, havn’t had many issues. We will have had our jags well before Sept, so not so concerned about that. As I said in my first post, I’ll be booking with my eyes open, and checking the cancellation terms.
