I've never skied at Megeve so I'll try to get a day there to tick it off the list. Anyone else in the area?

I’m in Megeve just now & it’s full of the Henry’s they all arrived yesterday so should be gone by next weekend
Never stayed in Megeve but went there once for a day whilst staying elsewhere, can't remember where! From what I recall, it's quite a nice town, a cut above the normal ski town in terms of shops and restaurants/bars, although clearly chasing the money (where isn't, I hear you say, but you'll see what I mean). I ended up skiing on my own just for a couple of hours. Went up the main gondola above the town area, you can sometimes park in the side streets just below the lift. There's a big bar/restaurant at the top which I seem to recall was not bad. I only had a couple of hours so I didn't venture that far. Again if I recall correctly there are a bunch of vaguely-parallel runs which you can work your way across (heading towards Les Contamines I guess - take your face mask!

I think you can head out of town in other directions too.
Fine above 1800m
Below 1400m all is good too:

The PdS is so massive, you don't have to worry about poor snow coverage, it's just the crowds that are the problem.
Last year I was out there for a long weekend at one point, and it was raining ABOVE Avoriaz, which is pretty amazing, but there's always skiing.

Morzine is heavy rain just now, we came off the slopes at 12:30. Temperature not forecast to drop below freezing until well into the night so it'll be interesting to see tomorrows conditions given the amount of rain we're having this afternoon. If it had been 5 deg cooler it would have been a very welcome dump but I suspect the already slushy pistes will be wrecked tomorrow. Yesterday was showing 16 deg at some lifts, suspect it was actually around 12 deg but still way too warm. Never seen so much greenery in the Alps this time of year.

Same in Les Arcs. Not been freezing at any level since we arrived and the snow pack is saturated even higher up. Temps are forecast to drop tonight but that means tomorrow everything will be like concrete. Never seen anything like it in February.
I am lightly concerned that I’m still over a month from going. I might have a walking/biking holiday. Dog Star said:

But off to Chamonix next weekend assuming EasyJet decide to fly. Just found out it's English half-term ![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)
First question I always ask when booking is "are there any school holidays"; in 16 years I've never had a lift queue of note.![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)

We'll have more cold spells, I wouldn't worry. We're away on 21st March ... usually away that week or the previous week and have had some great weather over the past 24 or so seasons.stuarthat said:

Why do you get fined for wearing ski gear?!!
That’s the rules ,didn’t ask why ,maybe clattering about like a cow on roller skates doesn’t look good .https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/ski/news/ischgl...
Going to Pila, Aosta Valley in a couple of weeks. I'm going along with my son's school skiing trip. Have never been skiing before, so would appreciate any pointers on ski gear I should be taking.
So far I've got:
1 ski jacket
2 x trousers
2 x base layer sets
6 x ski socks (one pair per skiing day)
Gloves
Beanie
Goggles
Sunglasses
Helmet being hired
Anything obvious missing?
