The way cases are going in France right now, I find it very hard to believe that the ski season will start next month.I've got flights booked for Feb half term but can't see that happening.
We have been debating whether to book for end of Feb or early March as usual, but we haven't booked because I can't see it happening.

I think we will just have to wait until winter 21/22.

Agreed. Was talking to my brother about it yesterday and we don't see our trip happening.

I’ve posted a few points which would be viewed as negative and got a knuckle wrap ie let’s keep positive please was the point (or maybe not post on the thread)
I suspect this is the same issue though no one is flagging it yet/sent to Coventry instead.

Its a shame, but what else is there to say?
Morzine and the rest of the PDS announced yesterday they would open on Dec 19th.

Wow, I'm amazed it's even available to book. Where are you going and was it super cheap?
St Anton. Basically we were going Jan 21 but A lot of the group (16 of us) can't isolate on our return. We have moved it to the following year, its a different Chalet and its £100 per person extra. So its not too bad at all.

My group have started planning to book somewhere in Austria end of Feb/ 1st week March.
Probably use Crystal for a level of reassurance and protection, but I am happy to risk the expenditure over the risk of missing out this season.
I'd give our chances 50:50 of getting away. I'd be happy to hear any more optimistic views!

We usually DIY our holidays, but with so many individual pieces that could go wrong, we'll rely on a tour operator this time.
I'll be happy to have a gap year student with a clip board to herd me to the airport Covid test station, then herd me onto a (deemed) safe transfer bus.

I doubt any ski resort will open until January.

I live and own a business in the French Alps and this is what I am expecting.

Our family holiday is booked for Feb half term and is immovable, and I recon there's a 20% chance of it happening as we're going to France. However, I'm telling myself there's a 75% chance - positive mental attitude. All the adults attending (with the exception of me) are front line NHS, so hopefully front of the queue for a vaccine if one's available and I've already had Covid, which hopefully gives us more of a fighting chance.

The lads trip would normally be a 5 day weekend DIY trip to Austria in January, which isn't going to happen. Of 9 of us who normally go, 4 have already agreed to book the week off work in March before school Easter holidays. If there's anywhere open with snow, we'll book 48hrs before departure, and book a full week with a tour operator. DIY lastminute would be a nightmare. I think that gives us the best chance of getting away. I'm not sure picking a destination now is totally wise, as things seem to change so quickly, a country with low rates now, may not be in the same place in March, and vice versa.

Of course, the flip side is that if a country does open up and is available I suspect prices will rocket and places will be limited, so booking now would have been wise. The rates below don't make any of the traditional European resorts look very promising, but a lot can change in 4 months.

It's all a gamble, but one I'm happy to take. Fingers crossed we get away.

Current 14 day cumulative Covid cases per 100,000 (pinched of the internet, I'm no expert, so apologies if incorrect):

France 941
Austria 901
Italy 727
Spain 599
Bulgaria 598
Sweden 473
UK 472
Germany 297
Norway 136
Finland 54

Presumably you are referring to French resorts ? Or the Alps as a whole ? Europe ? Global ?

A bit of a lazy headline tbh. The four companies are all owned by the same group... So it's just a decision made to not do any skiing for one UK company. I can see where they're coming from - too much of a headache to get people out in resort - I think at least two of those 'companies' put staff in resort (i.e. catered chalets) - so there's training and other risks involved and then what happens when people get there and then holidaymakers can't get out there etc... Money going in, money going out, Ts&Cs and negative press etc.. It would be a massive headache and potentially a lot of cost for possibly little or no return.

As far as I'm aware catered chalets are just not happening this year, it's impossible given the same host looks after people week to week

We're (3 x 'silver' skiers!!) are booked to go to Niederau mid March so hopefully by then we'll be vaccinated (in an early group due to age!!) so ready to go.
Niederau is scheduled to open on Dec 4th so fingers crossed...... Austria seems pretty well organised for social distancing.

First result on Google - The clip for “Last Christmas” was originally filmed in 1984 at a Swiss resort called Saas-Fee

Chalet details -

It wasn't that hard to find.....

Not for 13 years, but yes. Huge height gain so very long runs, and the world's highest revolving restaurant where my wife asked if we could have a table out of the sun. hehe

Skiid there a couple of times thirty-odd years ago. Ok but don’t remember it being massively special
