I looked at flights for Saturday, EasyJet to Geneva was £800pp!! Driving has saved a tonne of money, and the only real difference with it taking so long is the frustration at getting stuck in traffic.
If you book flights 51 weeks in advance you’ll get them cheap - half term dates for 2020 are published so book now you’ll save a fortune next timeZigster said:
We always drive for exactly that reason. Gatwick to Geneva on EasyJet for >£3,000 and then still have the costs of transfers. Or drive (with a boot full of groceries to save on the resort supermarket’s comedy pricing) for no more than about £1,000 in total, and not have to face the savagery of airports at half-term.
Well right now BA LGw to Geneva 51 weeks time is £119.32 per person. So £480 family of 4 return flights-£520 cheaper than driving
If you want to fly club Europe it’s £247 per person return so no dealing with airport issues Mans it’s still cheaper than the driving option.
Clearly if your unorganised (I suspect your not and your buying next years Euro ticket now to maximise the lowest price it can be) it costs a lot but half term is a known entity those dates are what they are - you want to go skiing then you know it’s expensive and gets like that quickly so solution is get in very very early to secure best pricing.
I might have saved you 1,000+++ miles - you can thank me later.

The latest I can seem to find on BA is 9 FebThe half term price will initially be indifferent / when I say initially you need to be logged on at 2/3/4/5am this coming Sat/Sunday to book itup and even book a single out and then the single back
I’ve bought half term tickets this way before and literally in a matter of hours the price went from the lowest rate to £2.5k+ silly territory

That's some strong man maths right there when you forget about parking at lgw, petrol to lgw, transfers for 4 to resort etcSo £480 family of 4 return flights-£520 cheaper than driving

For me getting to Gatwick would be just over £20in fuel but then airport parking is a hassle and costly. However as there are 5 of us we’ve used taxis from door to door home to airport and again given you book it right it’s hardly any more than tuel + parking cost IIrC last time we did it from that airport it was £180-220 return. Let’s assume it’s £220 for this example.
So you’ve £300 left for the transfer at the other end. Now I’ve no idea what prices are in that area but I know what Sofia to Bansko costs for transfers €180 return for a minibus /Merc Vito thing.
No special calculator just rudamental addition.
Hopefully this will save some of you hardened we must drive to the ski resorts folks some £.

Hmm...like I need more excuses to ski! Tell more more.
Lol. I think I’m noticing more people I know or when I speak to friends of friends at a certain point those who did ski are electing not to for one reason or another.
Result people who want to ski / board still want to go but some will have had their usual or friend route essentially but off.
I cannot imagine anyone would like or contemplate 6 days skiing heck 3 days skiing solo and solo meals
Maybe this is an answer? One link being I’d assume we all like cars a little bit more than average Joe and we like skiing be we beginners or double black diamond warriors all up for fun

Italian motorways are fantastic though. The E roads. Very little traffic, speed limits seem optional, and if you see a policeman he's probably on his way home for lunch.
Anyway........ anyone got any tips for a first time visit to Val D'isire (or however you spell it). Reasonably advanced skier; are there any 'must do' runs? If its as warm as it has been of late I'll be in the Follie Douche by lunchtime but would rather not miss anything exciting.
Lol if your in the Follie Douche from Lunchtime you’ll have some wait it’s 2-5pm opening hours. Drinky drinky on the slopes isn’t pushed that hard in France hence shortened hours and the debautchery that goes on in that place (online videos are eye opening)Anyway........ anyone got any tips for a first time visit to Val D'isire (or however you spell it). I have never been more scared than coming past the folly on the way home as they’re kicking out.
Dangerous to the point that I stopped off the side of the piste and just watched for 15 minutes.
It should be closed if they are actively promoting heavy drinking then skiing down a mountain. Dangerous to the point that I stopped off the side of the piste and just watched for 15 minutes.
Sadly I can see this craziness resulting in all resorts saying nope booze free instead of the nice 1-2 beers you can enjoy vs getting smashed and hurting others

He picked a different week.
Single Sat 2020 15/2/20 released this morning T5 to Sofia normally starting at £45 ish but now today it was listed first thing today it’s now £408 FFS. I’ll set my alarm at 2am tomorrow morning to book the flights/lock in the price for 3 days then choose.

I think you will be disappointed. The chaps in BA revenue management have probably figured out by now which dates are the main UK half term weeks and will know not to sell it at silly cheap prices when the flights create in their system.
They can put on extra flights too EddieSteadyGo said:
Good point. I would imagine BA have a few dozen A320's sitting around waiting for half term.
Not taking into account the slots, which I hear they are giving away at Heathrow
Given the extra flights they are able to make during the peak summer months throughout Europe you have to question what & where those planes are during peak winter ski season. Not taking into account the slots, which I hear they are giving away at Heathrow
Ditto the slots

Think I'll go to bed now, set the alarm for 0155 and get up to watch it live.
Desolate do you drive or fly with the wife and kids @ half term/ how do fund it/accept true eye watering prices? Is it cheaper to use Nelson/another package ski trip instead of building it up yourself?
