Queue chaos at Airports
Discussion
Issues not just UK… things are getting pretty rough in Norway. Trip to Oslo this week had a cancellation on the outbound, a long delay, missed connection, cancellation this morning with a first available rebooking of next Monday on the return. Bailed out of the SAS/Wideroe shambles and got a Loganair hop back to Newcastle - which was an almost blissful experience, 2 mins for passports, 5 mins for bags. Departures seemed very quiet, Followed this up with Metro into town and two in-time trains to Aberdeen - no catering due to staff shortages, but you can’t have everything these days…
Coming out of Schipol last night it took 80 minutes to get through security and immigration. Mainly down to stupid people taking all the liquids and electronics out of the bags when there are clear signs all through the queue you don’t need to do that at Schipol now.
I find when I fly out of the UK it’s the opposite that is causing some of the delay. People getting To security and acting like they have never flown before so stand and wait to be told what to remove and to pack their toiletries into a plastic bag etc.
Back at Birmingham last night we were stuck on the plane for nearly an hour because they didn’t have enough staff to go and fetch the steps

That is frustrating when you're behind them, but generally find the scanner itself is the bottleneck anyway.Sheepshanks said:

And how much of that is down to people not removing belts etc. security would be a lot smoother without people ![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)
I meant the machine, not the bit you walk through. It's always been very rare that you could put your stuff in a tray stuff in a tray and it's gone straight in.![hehe](/inc/images/hehe.gif)

That’s pretty standard for Birmingham. Last time I flew in to Birmingham, before all this nonsense began, it was a late flight so they decided to park us up off the stand. No steps but Ryanair carry their own front set. But there weren’t any buses despite the airport being virtually empty. Took about an hour to get to passport control. Phil. said:

We are flying out of Birmingham imminently. Is there any merit in buying the priority security and border passes? I have head some travellers elsewhere say that it actually slowed them down!
Haven’t travelled since the nonessential began but do travel regularly through BHX and always buy the priority security. I’ve bought it for my next flight in a few weeks time. You don’t have to use it if priority queue is longer than the non-priority queue. Haven’t bought the return border passes. It rather depends how many flights are arriving at the same time. If you’re arriving around the time of one of them Emirates flights then it may be worth while.

I've always said there should be two lines, one for people who know how to queue and one for everyone else. I find when I fly out of the UK it’s the opposite that is causing some of the delay. People getting To security and acting like they have never flown before so stand and wait to be told what to remove and to pack their toiletries into a plastic bag etc.
If you hold up the "know how to queue" line, I.E. dont take your liquids out or fail to move up in a reasonable time frame (doubly so if you're pissfarting around on your phone) you are immediately ejected from this queue by burly security staff and placed at the end of the "don't know how to queue" line. No ifs, buts or maybes

Has anyone looked into hiring private jets? Clearly a good step on but 20 ish capacity could make it a very nice trip for those with the means
I wonder how much UK to the Med is?
Been a few years since I looked but about £8K an hour. IIRC that was for a BBJ or ACJ (Boeing Business Jet/Airbus Commercial Jet) type. A lower end private jet like a Lear/bombardier or even a Cirrus SF50 will probably be less. I wonder how much UK to the Med is?
Erm, but you don't want to slum it in one odf those, surely.
I suspect it's one of those things that if you have to ask, you can't afford it.
WRT queues, you can still end up in them if you don't pay to use the private terminal... IIRC the one at Heathrow costs about £2500.

Private jet travelled has boomed during and post covid. It’s very expensive though, more 0.1%er than 1%er territory in this country.I wonder how much UK to the Med is?
Very few private jets can carry that many people in comfort.

Yep. 20 in a private jet and you're looking at a B737/A320 type and that'll be expensive. A Cirrus CF50 holds 6 passengers and a Challenger 850 can hold up to 16 depending on configuration Very few private jets can carry that many people in comfort.
