Well, after my bloody nightmare apartment being cancelled at very short notice, I think I've finally managed to find another one....

Just waiting for confirmation about the total, then I'll be having a little cheer to myself.

I did exactly the right thing, and found an apartment for the season back in April/May, all booked, deposit paid, job done.

Chap contacted me very late September to tell me unfortunately it was no longer available, which meant me looking for an apartment, for the season, in October, which is far too late for Kitzbuhel, which is booked up for months in advance.

I'll be starting another thread about our toboggan adventures, but suffice to say, my old office has been temporarily turned in to an aluminium workshop!

So, skis/boots are coming out of the loft next weekend, along with roof bars, clothes, and all the other kit, to get ready for the season. It's all fun!
Nic if you have any problems with finding something for the season, drop me a line .......

Looking for Kitz / Kirchberg. Pretty sure we've got somewhere now, at least I've paid a fairly hefty deposit, just need to confirm it on Monday.

But cheers anyway! thumbup

Any recomendations for a snowboarding instructor there??
I'm not a boarder. The regular ski/snowboard school is the only one in town but is none the worse for that. I'd be happy signing up for the group lessons for a few days and get to meet new people out for a good time, which is always nice.

It won't disappoint you! The Westin's a decent hotel and the location is arguably the best in the village for the lifts. That said there is nowhere in the main village that is particularly far away (the advantages of being purpose built and pedestrianised!) Ski/board school is excellent and great fun as well.

I'll be there for 12 days from Boxing day. We have a one bed apartment in the Sunpath complex so we go skiing at least once a year. Last year I had the pleasure of meeting up with Streetrod from PH and we had an awesome morning blasting around on Blackcomb Mountain.

When are you there?
Whoozit, how are you doing, I'm very jealous as I won’t be in Whistler this year unless I can arrange a late season trip. Thanks for your company last year, it was great fun.

Flyingjase, it would be well worth your while hooking up with one of the free mountain orienteering groups. These guys and girls will show you around and it’s a great way to get a feel for the place.

The ski school is also great, my other half and two kids having used them for the last four years. My kids have also had the same instructor each year which has been great for them. Have fun

If your kids are there Monday to Friday, it is worth looking at booking them into adventure camp for the week. They get the same class and same instructor for the week (rather than a ski off every morning to sort them, which my kids tell me is how day lessons for groups work). IIRC it is cheaper than 5*1 day lessons to boot.

I'm off to Meribel for the pre-neige week (11th - 17th Dec) - Bizarrely its always been great snow for the last 5 years with the odd bit of ice.

Then off to Megeve for 2 weeks just after New Year - Got myself a shiney new pair of ski boots this year so I can't wait!

I'm off for a sneaky few days early season as well. 15th to 19th Dec to Morzine/Avoriaz.

It is snowing there at the moment.

Went at the same time last year and conditions were good and the place was deserted. Very cheap too.

This was an green run which is normally packed (which of course I was only on as a warm up-normally double blacks all the way for me laugh)

Yay, my apartment has finally been confirmed (after the first one fell through last minute), so I'm definitely off now.

Not sure what the weather is doing yet, looks on a knife edge at the moment...

See my other thread about building toboggans for this year, it's all going well so far!

Interested to know do you stay in a hotel or S/C? & where in the town?

Reason is we've been for the last few years as the kids have the same instructor and we want to make the most of the place.

RE recommendations for Val
- happy hour is your friend; all the bars have happy hours at different times so plan your route accordingly....otherwise your wallet is going to take a real bashing.
- lovely restaurant over by Le Fornet - Edelweiss. Only accessible by ski/board and does some lovely food at reasonable prices (much better than going to the cattlemarket that is the Folie Douce over at the top of La Daille.
Don't plan to do any serious ski-ing afterwards though - you'll be far too full.
- bar at the bottom of La Daille.....we always call it Rosie's after the original owner.....I think that it is called something like La Rosee Perdu....lovely roaring fire inside for when it is cold and nice terrace for when it is sunny.
Perfect to wait for people coming down La Daille as they will have to come past the bar in order to get to the bus stop.
- Cafe Face is normal a safe bet for a couple of drinks; not too expensive outside of happy hour and generally has a good atmosphere
Thanks for the recommendations. Am off there over Christmas, haven't been there for about 8 years so can't remember where's good. Have noted those bars/restaurants down!

So todays update... looking out of the winder snow at 700m this morning!!

Went to;
> La Plagne - dead as the proverbial parrot
> Courchevel - how much building going on?? everywhere you went there were builders!!
> Val Thorens - very very pretty and the only resort with the snow blowers on.

Had the Audi so lots of drifting to be had where ever I went!!
