It does sound that the media really are pushing the huge bad news on airports whilst on the minuscule but varied sample we have on PH the feedback is quite the opposite.

It was mainly a half term holiday problem.
Wonder how the summer holiday season will be?

More so as our passport has arrived so we can now book

I wouldn't take any check in luggage, they already have a mountain of it there, all minus their owners.
Bit difficult for a family of four for two weeks in US and Mexico to only have hand luggage!
I know, but why leave it in the terminal, which is where it seems a lot is ending up.
DHL the lot to your home address ?

Jeez been checking out Uk forecast for end of July and it’s looking very changeable ie rain.

FFS camping in rain (again).

So Aug holiday is still to come ….. do we don’t we - airport queue is the off putter whereas ferry might work?

Where would you fly from because as stated on here the problems are different at different airports?

How old are your children, are they manageable over a long car journey/delayed flight?

I think ferry’s and the tunnel will be busy, so best to avoid weekend travel. Same for airports too.

How long are you going on holiday for, is a long drive each way worth it?
16-19 nights

Kids would have a breakdown if the queues were 3 hours. All been overseas plenty of times but youngest only once and cannot remember it / wants to go in a plane big pools slides etc.

We’re Reading so it’s Heathrow /Gatwick really.

I think you should just stay at home.

You’re obviously already worried about it and it’s likely to cause you constant upset and then you’ll make it worse by constantly posting apocalyptic predictions, much like you did during the pandemic.

Anyone else on here I’d advise to stop being daft and wait and see.
I think staying at home is possibly too late as we have not booked the August banker UK destination.

El Stovey remember I created this thread to capture real experiences people are seeing etc.

Easyjet and TUI flights cancelled and long queues at some UK airports as passengers face half-term disruption

Again.

So Cardiff Manchester Gatwick Bristol Birmingham etc utter chaos.

Not sure about anyone else but 3 to 40hour queues isn’t viable with children. Certainly not with ours meltdown for sure.
All as a reminder this is the original post of the thread.

Has anyone looked into hiring private jets? Clearly a good step on but 20 ish capacity could make it a very nice trip for those with the means

I wonder how much UK to the Med is?

On the sauce already?
Why does an option in a debate = early drinking in your mind?
Imagine you on Question time calling out anyones point “you’ve been drinking” then get escorted out for being rude to others (who may actually have addiction issues and that comment doesn’t help at all)

My car is full of camping stuff. Will be leaving for Pembrokeshire in an hour. Google maps is saying 4.5 hours and 215 miles. BBC weather is saying 17 to 20 during the day all week. Wish me luck.
Good luck - sounds like you likely live fairly close to my neck of the weeks.

This week here is looking really good.

Ryanair website is still saying that masks must be worn in the airport and on the plane and that, for Italy, this must be a FFP2 mask. Can anyone confirm this?
Urgh what’s that 3-5hours of wearing a mask non stop and in high heat.

To be fair to the Sun (it's hard), it's BA warning this. While they will secure fuel contracts on a long term basis, this expire at some point, and fuel has rocketed in price.

So flights will go up in price.

They can't win - warn in advance - criticised. Put prices up as their supply chain costs increase due to fuel - criticised.
It would be interesting to know what inflation is expected for flight ticket prices.

Staff wages all gone up
fuel gone crazy
Energy crazy mind duck
And food prices going up hugely - so onboard food and drink much more
