Hi guys,

Apologies for the delay, I have been away with work so just had chance to get back to sorting this.

We arranged the flights and we dont get in to Dubai until about 11pm on the 3rd, what we have decided to do is book a cheaper hotel near the airport for that night, then checkout early and arranged an early check in.

We got a good deal on the C-Central Hotel on the Palm, premium room and all inclusive for about £1100, there was only about £300 between half board and all inclusive and we figured by the time we pay (and travel) for lunch, drinks etc we would do more than £300 easily, the hotel looks nice and seems a good location.. we do however have free cancellation until the day before so let me know if this is a hotel to avoid!

One other thing I was going to ask is regarding Lambo hire, I was talking to a family friend last weekend who lived in Dubai for a few years. In his opinion there isn't much point in hiring these type fo cars due to the amount of cameras around the city and the hidden fees most companies add on. He recommended going to somewhere such as Yas Marina or the Autodrome and hiring a car but thats not exactly what we were after.

Its not cheap hiring a Lambo for a day and I do want to get some fun out of it, is there much point in doing so or will I just be stuck doing 50-60mph around most of the city and getting frustrated?

There are plenty of places you can open it up and cameras are very obvious. Google jebel Jais / jebel hafeet but also the mountains near hatta are decent and the hatta fort hotel does a good breakfast buffet at 75dhs for weekend visitors as it’s so popular. I had my Ducati bouncing off the limiter in 6th over that way on the weekend.

Remind me if I forget but I will ask about car hire, there’s one that’s always recommended on the local WhatsApp groups but can’t remember it.

Coya brunch is brilliant. Done it twice. The saffron brunch at Atlantis is nuts but a bit too big and fairly clinical. We went to another one which was great near the airport where they had games and hats to dress up etc. was champagne all afternoon.
But I’d recommend Coya as I said.
I was lucky as my mate stayed on sheik zayed road in the Sheraton in a suite for 3 years. So I just popped across flights only.

Much appreciated again guys.

The places mentioned look like good fun, we were going to drive to Abu Dhabi and have an explore but heading in land might be a nice change of scenery and hopefully less speed cameras..

I have tried a few hire companies, superior rental seem to be one of the main ones?
Any other suggestions welcome though.

As mentioned fast cars are not the easiest to have fun with. However don't underestimate the fun you can have with a stbox hire car. The roads through the mountains to the east are great for thrashing the life out of some crappy rental. And you're unlikely to get a speeding ticket or unwanted attention.

A fun day road trip is through the desert to Fujairah, up the east coast past Khorfakkan to Dibba, back across and down to Dubai. There's various roads to snake through the hills, and plenty of beach places to stop for lunch on the east coast - the sea and beach there is quite different. It's a great way for a long day driving trip out, and really gets you to see the UAE beyond just the obvious dubai glitz. The friday market is also worth a stop to shop for various tat, especially silk persian rugs, with proper haggling.

Another good road trip is to do the Abu Dhabi thing as you mention, there's the usual places of the big Mosque, the Emirates Palace hotel for excessively priced afternoon tea in the lobby (the Ritz lobby afternoon tea near the mosque is way better and way cheaper). But also worth a stop down to the Emirates National Auto Museum - some quite bizarre cars there.

If you want a real monster drive day out then it is possible to drive all the way to Liwa in the Abu Dhabi desert and back in a day. Crazy sand dunes there - used for lots of movies recently - and the date palm farms which you can sometimes tour / visit. I did this drive once in mid-summer (50+ degrees) and it was great fun, going there via the desert road and back via the motor museum and abu dhabi.
