I'm off to France at the end of the month and need somewhere to stay on my first night as my ferry doesn't get there until 9:30pm so does anyone have any recommendations for a campsite near Caen?

I'll be on a bike with camping gear so it needs to be local rather than "only 50km up the coast" type places.

Thanks all. smile

What sort of bike? Motor or pedal powered?
I've stayed in one of the caravans at Camping La Cote De Nacre in St Aubin Sur Mer twice, but it may be a bit far from Ouistreham (I'm assuming it's the Portsmouth to Caen ferry you're using) if you're cycling.
There are definitely others closer to Ouistreham along or near the coast road (D514) and I have a vague recollection of there being one on the road out of Ouistreham towards Pegasus Bridge, which I asume is this one I found on Google Maps, but a search for it by name hasn't turned up a website for them.

Yes it's a bike with pedals and the plan is to be packed up and on a train the following morning from Caen to Tours to skip the less interesting bits (from a cycling point of view) in the north before heading down to Midi-Pyrenees. With all the camping gear it weighs quite a bit so I'd rather keep distances to a minimum until I get off the train at Tours.

Depending on what the rules are about taking a bike on a train at peak times I can either catch one at 8:30 or 10:30 so if it's the 8:30 I'd prefer to be near the station but if the later train something a bit further out is fine.

I've found a review of the one on Google Maps here and it's a bit unloved. Anyone stayed at Hautes Coutures?

There is one just West (>1km) of Courseulles on the D514 right on 'Juno' Beach. All facilities but well out of town

Just stumbled across this whilst looking to see what transport links there are from Ouisterham into Caen.

The link is for Caen to Paris, so you'd have to change it to your destination, but it does seem to show what facilities each train has, including bike transportation.
