Singapore and Borneo
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm going on honeymoon to Borneo via Singapore. We will have 6 nights in Borneo and 7 in Singapore.
I have full vaccinations and can travel anywhere in the world but my other half only has the ones she would have had in school.
Are there any she needs for visiting both areas? I'm sure SIngapore is ok but am not so sure on Borneo.
The honeymoon is a surprise so I can't just ask her to find out from the doctors, i'm currently out of the country also.
Dave!

Are you going to Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia side) in Borneo? If so there is no need. I went there a few years back and had all the injections and tablets but didn't really need them. Yes we did some exploring (travelling around hostels) but even then it's a low risk area.
However, if you are venturing into the Indonesian part, I don't know that so well and I think it's higher risk. Borneo has a very dense 'middle' of unexplored jungle which if I was travelling into I'd be having every injection going.
So yeah, to summerise, if you are staying in the tourist resorts then you won't need them, if you are doing some exploring then it's probably worth it.
Enjoy, Borneo is a really fascinating and beautiful country. If you are lucky like us you might even see a real, living Rafflesia.

No problem.
- The surrounding islands are very small but spectacular! We went snorkelling on a few (you can spend the day there and there's usually a bar/food etc) and it's pure bliss.
- Survivor island was awesome! IIRC it's called Pulau Tiger(sp?) and it's a boat trip away. You can spend the night there and there's a natural mud bath at the top (volcanic?).
- Seriously bloody humid! I've been to Mexico and Thailand and Borneo was beyond that...
- BOOK the Mt. Kinabalu trek... I really wanted to climb it but it was fully booked for 2-3 weeks in advance. It is meant to be a brilliant climb and not too hard so even the relatively unfit can do it.
- The canopy & waterfall walk is also recommended - some really pretty wildlife like a huge blue butterfly the size of a small football that landed on my shoulder.
I'm well jealous.

These are all great things to hear, it's very much appreciated and means we can plan some of those activities as soon as we arrive
I've worked in some very hot and humid places but that was in overalls, it'll require a big shopping trip before we leave I think.
Time to dust off my adventure sandals

Trying to fill 7 days in Singapore is going to be tough! I would even think about taking a flight to Bangkok or Phuket.
For Singapore I was just using Trip Advisor and slowly whittleing down the list till I had 20 or so things to see which we would decide on when we got there.http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attractions-g294265-...
Are there any must see things you can reccomend?
We have free drinks and snacks at the hotel all day but intended to sample some weird and wonderful food with a big meal each night.
Dave!
Singapore is great. We just had four days there and could have done seven. It depends what you are looking for. The obvious choice is to take some time out and relax. Out hotel had a good pool and the weather was perfect. You have plenty to do and see in Singapore. You could spend a day each in China Town, Little India and Kampong Glam. Sentosa Island including Universal Studios could be an option as could getting away to a nearby island.
My suggestions:
1. Clarke Quay after 9pm - Nice bars and theres a reverse bungee too
2. A day at Santosa Island, with a visit to Universal Studios. They have a Zip wire, which is fun, but expensive. There is a nice beach and the luge is great
3. An Afternoon in China town with walks along Temple Street and Mosque Street
4. Night Safari
5. Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay and a tour around Marina Bay Sands with Cocktails on the roof top bar
6. Drinks at the Post bar at the Fullerton Hotel, dinner at Boat Quay and then back to the Fullerton Bay Hotel Bar
7. Orchard Road Shopping
8. Orchard Towers, if your other half is ok with it. There are some great bars and the girls there will leave you alone and it very safe. Out the back is Harrys BAr, Claymore street?, its excellent with a great in house band, really 5 star.
9. Dinner at Dempsey Hill, there is a fantastic Thai resturant called Tawandang with entertainment, which is cool.
8. Rent a bike and follow the coast road towards Changi, see all the ships in the harbor
9. Go to a Hawker Centre, local food, creat and cheap. I have never got an upset stomach in SIN
10. Drinks at the New Asia Bar at the top of the Swiss Hotel
Thats all I can think of.

7 days in Singapore seems such a waste when you consider the other areas you can easily access via a 1-3 flight. 1 or 2 days tops in Singapore.
Southern Thailand, Ko Lipe, Ko Muk, Ko Lanta, Phi Phi
Malaysian Islands, Perhenthians etc
Philippines, Visayas, Palawan (El Nido), Busuanga / Coron
Google image any of these and you will see what I mean.

I work in Borneo you don't need anything unless you are going into the jungle, real big time, I've been in Asia for 17 years and Borneo for 4 there is no problem. If you want th eo h0rrer stories then there are loads but in reality they do not effect tourist, here are some of the things that have happend around me in the last 12 months, just to get the 'tourists' on here talking, Cholera in Bintule 150 people in hospital) truth confined to the river side on the old town where you would never go, Malaria outside KK last summer, (truth confined to 3 Indian workeres who had just returned), 4 people killed in sword fights just before Christmas, (truth Cinese workers who were drunk out of their mind started fighting in a long house and were killed. As a tourist there is no problem of any kind and you don't need an medication.
Go to the crab restaurant at Clarks quay, Jumbo.
Singapore is very very expensive, so be prepared.
We also did Singapore and Kota Kinabalu, stayed at the Rasa Ria in Kinabalu. The hotel is great with good food, you need to be in the Adult only section of the hotel. The orangutans are great and a couple of trips were good. Don't do the Mount Kinabalu, it is very tough and a very long day.
