Discussion

I would like to visit the Christmas markets, in Germany at the end of Nov / start of Dec this year.
I have two questions:
- Does Germany hold the best Chrsimas markets in Europe ?
- Which area in Germnay would you advise to visit / name of that specific Christmas market ?
Thank you in advance for your input.

Just about every town in Germany with have a Christmas market. The (zee
) Germans love Christmas markets but there are all offer generally similar things. The food is wonderful at all of these and I tend to prefer to go to more smaller markets than the bigger ones as the produce is usually local and run by the locals which gives a great atmosphere.

Be careful going at the end of November, many markets won't open until 1st December or possibly the first Pentecost weekend (think that is correct religious term, but apologies if not).
Berlin has some great markets dotted around the city, but also Trier is pretty good (can be easily twinned with Luxembourg market just across the border, which is probably better for food rather than crafts).

I went to the Hamburg market a few years ago and that was brilliant.
Glue vine galore .. proper mugs not a plastic cup like in a UK german market and
also santa claus on a sled on a zip wire.. unbelievable.
If you are thinking of going to the Birmingham german market - just dont.
