I'm an Indian looking fellow. British born and all that.

Our here in Cyprus. Stunning island, been to all the best beaches, Nissi, Fig Tree and Konnos etc.

The hotel we are at there must be 80% Russians. It's Fukin crazy to be honest. They all looked pissed off, women have their fake eyelashes on in the pool and kick off when their designer hair gets wet.

They never say hello. Also because I am tanned to heck and already of brown skin they just stare at me trying to place me in terms of exactly what species I am. It's actually hilarious....

Maybe it's education on their part, I gather a lot live in remote places but having done research I gather Russia alone is propping up some of the euro countries economies.

The hotel staff hate em, the taxi drivers hate them, my Cypriot mates who live hate them.

If I started going on about the kids who are practically feral and up till 1am I would be here all day.

Right back into the water I go!

Note for next time, avoid Russian tourists.... I'm hoping they ain't saturated Koh Samui as we will be visiting there again next year.

Dubai used to be like this, I haven't noticed it quite so much in the last 3 or 4 years, perhaps they've decided to holiday in Cyprus? laugh

Incredibly rude, without humour and tacky beyond belief.

Many moons ago I was on holiday in Sharm, the Russian's seemed to love that place back then too. Very odd holiday makers IMO, miserable, angry, confrontational, "us and them" attitudes and frankly rude on times. The hotel next door to us, which we were told was 100% Russian was the most morbid looking hotel the world has ever seen, right up until around 11pm by which point I assume they were all ass holed off cheap Vodka, then the hotel turned into a mental 1980's rave with the worst/loudest dance music the world has ever had the misfortune of hearing.

Bizarre hotel that one......

Just got back from Cyprus and can confirm all of the above observations laugh

I dont get offended by the way they come across although quite a few other Brits did; its not personal just a cultural difference.

I quite liked it in Kos in 2015. It was refreshing to look at people who look after themselves a little bit. I found the brits were the ugliest people around and had no shame, letting their kids run amok because they were too fat to get off their fat arses. Especially All Inclusive as well, letting their darling have anything they want as 'it's free, innit!' then leaving plates of chips and melting ice cream everywhere.

Particularly remember a russian lady, 6ft blonde, size 8, wearing a string bikini thumbup

There were many Russians in the hotel where we stayed in Sharm a few years ago. The only thing I really noticed was that unlike us Brits, they have no concept of queuing at the buffet, and will take everything as if it was never going to be replaced. A bit off to begin with.

I did my usual thing - be friendly to the catering staff and they'll look after you

Too expensive since the Russian economy tanked - now they go to Cyprus it seems.

Shame - we got married in Cyrpus.

If you want to do a cheap rally experience - Go in February, hire a stbox and drive up to the mountains and then see how fast you can get back down again. There's no traffic, you'll go from snow to gravel to tarmac and back again, and then have a beer on the beach after wards smile

Yes, we went to Mexico and it was a fairly expensive holiday, still had the bloated, red, tattooed brits displaying no class whatsoever, sitting in the pool on the pool side, on the underwater bar stools, drinking from just after breakfast all day, never moving so obviously disgorging vast quantities of Dos Equis back into the pool, taking vast amounts of food from the barbecue they did every day (delicious) because they could and then leaving it to fester in the sun, more fool them as the hotel was overun with "Coatis" a sort of ferrety Badger that woudl scuttle up and grab it, saw this big fat ttenage girl reach for her drink and stroke one by mistake, st herself biggrin

The Americans were wasteful as well, big piles of food left untouched, ok if something isnt nice, or leave a little but perhaps dont take it in the first place, or take a bit, you can go back for a smidge more.

And that was a fairly upmarket resort, a bit off the beaten track (compared to the normal locations) my parents went to one in Spain and were utterly disgusted with how our countrymen behave, same thing we saw only much, much worse.

The Russians sound a bit like really ignorant versions of Essex folk based on description !

Are you sure they're just not a bit dubious about your choice of swimming shorts?

I had the same in Sharm. They'd push in to the drinks queue and just say 'rum cola' very loudly until they got one. We played a guessing game around the pool as to whether the middle aged overweight russian was with his wife, mistress or daughter...

Not the best of hotels!

Had this in Turkey a few years back at an all inclusive place. They would just barge into the front of any queue then take all of what was on offer, piling it onto several plates then go back to their table , eat a mouthful then leave the rest. Utter utter wkers.

Always looked grim constantly pushing people out of the way , if you didnt step aside when they were coming through you'd get shoved into a hedge or in a few cases I saw the pool.

Staff hated them and wouldnt serve them at tables and made them go to the bar and they werent allowed to join the entertainment - pool games, archery etc at all.

Cyprus and Greece are favourite spots because of the ease of access to western Russia, and also the shared culture (Orthodox).

The good news is that, as mentioned, the staff hate them, and that means they end up liking the Brits more than before. As above, look after the staff, and they look after you. We went all inclusive in Crete a few years back and just had to be near the bar to be served our normal drinks at a table. The Russians had to scrum (they can't queue) at the bar.

Also Cyprus allowed Russians to buy EU passports by investing €250k - easy.

I visit thailand quite a bit and about 4 years ago they had taken over lots of the holiday spots like Phuket and Pattaya. Was really weird seeing signs that were always written in Thai or English being russian. Menus in the restaurants were Russian too. And dont get started on the budgie smugglers the guys wear at the beach.

Was back again last year for paramotor training and it seems to have all gone. Spoke to the instructor that also takes tourists out on flights and he said the russians stopped coming after the economy tanked due to sanctions?. They still go but do not spend the same money going flights with him.

In Pattaya the latest influx is Chinese people. They are a strange bunch, where brits would go a walk down walking street looking at the pretty ladies the chinese are in tour groups with cameras and never drinking. 2 big hotels have been built that are only full of chinese and buses come every night with new guests.

I am guessing Cyprus is much cheaper for them.

It's where they launder all their money so it's a given that they'll go there to enjoy some spoils.

I've been in a few place that were Russian heavy. They did not make a good impression. Maybe they're more cheerful at home.

Lots of rich Russians in the Maldives a few years ago and lots in Turkey too previously. Guess those that can't afford to go to the Maldives and are instructed not to go to Turkey now go to Cyprus instead. - edit, seems to be lifted now, Turkey is probably much the same...

Confirm what the staff say about them. Also confirm the confusion about skin colour - i am Caucasian but my other half is Coolie Royal Jamaican (Indian Jamaican mix) so not only can they not work her out individually, but together we seem to be a bit of an oddity.

We still seem to get a few odd glances in some less diverse areas of the UK too, or that may be simply because she is so astonishingly and amazingly beautiful... not sure. smile

I thought Russian tourists were rude, until i met Chinese tourists in Cambodia and Thailandeek

They are ruder, more dirty (cough and spit everywhere, blow their nose into the swimming pool), much louder, absolute pigs when eating and in Cambodia they are EVERYWHERE! in some cases 15-20 coaches will turn up at once at a temple/attraction and they ruin the place by spitting, coughing and shouting at each other and the locals

A South Korean island has even banned them, and in parts of Asia they are given books on how to behave in public!
