Has anyone used airport park and ride for parking at Gatwick?

Well - whatever you do, if you choose to use this method - book via the Gatwick Airport website.

https://www.gatwickairport.com/parking/

There are so, so many cowboy operators around here and cracking down on them seems rather hard. Those above have met at least some standards and you'll have comeback on a much bigger organisation - Gatwick - than some back-woods type operation who either use your car as an executive taxi for a fortnight or leave it unlocked in a field.

Many times.

Use their own one, rather than a third party, so you can choose your own space, preferably an end of row.

The buses really are quite frequent, and so long as you record the stop and row number (and don't loose it) it isn't a problem.

Try to avoid the low flight path runway end if you can, if you have a sensitive alarm (have come back to a flat battery after two weeks before).

Whenever I go from Gatwick, I stay here http://www.stanhillcourthotel.co.uk/

They let you leave your car there for the duration and don't require you to leave keys and arrange taxi's to and from the airport. Tends to work out cheaper than the carparks and you get a nice room for the night.

I've looked more into it,
www.airportparkandride.com are using www.cophallparkinggatwick.co.uk and they are an gatwick approved operator, so it'll be safe.
I was thinking of going with gatwick but these are much cheaper and have good reviews.

I used a third party one once before, it was a bit of a faff as it was a case of dropping the car into a queue, going into an office to sort out the paperwork, then getting a bus to the airport. Probably added 30 minutes to the overall part of the day each end and had no idea where my car had gone.

I always use Gatwick official site now as if you book it enough in advance the prices are not THAT different i.e. 5 days is £55 vs £35 or something - is your car safety worth £20? And as other said you can choose where you put the car and the bus service for the gatwick carparks is really frequent never had to wait more than 5 mins for the 15 minute bus, guess we always get lucky.

On another note, twice in the last year or so I have gone to the official Gatwick site, got my price up on screen and left the tab open whilst navigating other sites, when I clicked back to the Gatwick tab a pop up had appeared offering me 10% if I booked there an then - I guess it times your duration on the page and markets at you! :-)

First time using on-site parking about seven years ago our return flight was cancelled so did not return until the day after our booked & paid for parking had expired so the exit barrier would not open. Went to the office expecting to have to pay an extortionate rate for the extra day and was delighted that they were aware of the late flight arrival and just authorised the extra at no charge.

Have used the official on-site parking ever since. Never had any problems and the buses are convenient, free and regular. :-)

OP - also consider that if you sign up for a "MyGatwick" account you'll get 10% off their advance parking rates - may bring the cost down closer to an off-site provider

Coming to Gatwick soon will be our new robot parking system. We are going to be go to trial soon. The robot will pick up your car on a sled and park it within inches of other cars. This will allow us to get more cars onto a smaller space and ensure they dont get damaged. Its actually rather cool when you see the tech involved

I used the pod parking at heathrow, it was brilliant, park up, walk a minute to the driverless pods staging area, jump in one and they drive you to the terminal!

Worth bearing in mind that a lot of these off airport car parks use overflow parking.

If their main car park gets full (with nice and shiny offices and CCTV, wire fencing etc) then it's likely your car may end up being driven down the road by someone earning minimum wage (on a zero hour contract) to their secondary car park (which could be anything from a field to an industrial estate).

I live reasonably near to Gatwick so drive in the area and local towns quite regularly. There are always loads of cars parked on the side roads etc, actually anywhere where there are no yellow lines, and many of these cars will be parked by so called car parking companies. It is amazing how obvious this occurs and where. I would never use a firm where I give them the keys to my car. Use Gatwick's official long term parking or one of the hotels offering free parking and transfer to/from Gatwick is best solution.

Compare the prices of the two official long stay car parks; North and South.
I can't remember which, but one is always significantly cheaper than the other.
As there's a very convenient and quick monorail between the two terminals, I have often parked in the 'wrong' car park to save £30 or so.

I have used Garaged.com in the past, not the cheapest but I suppose it depends how much you value your car,he meets you in the car park, films the car in HD including the mileage before he takes it to his premises, he then sends you a photo of the car parked inside his building, he meets you off your flight at the same spot, you check the car over, he gives you the prepaid car park exit ticket and away you go, highly recommend them.

I've used Premier Inn park/stay/fly many times, this includes Gatwick Official valet parking, never had a problem.
The golden rule is make sure you book parking through the official Gatwick site.

I have used the OFFICIAL car park - it was about 35 for 5 nights I think.

Its about 10 mins drive away from the terminal and there are regular busses.

I got back into the country about 1am I think and waited about 10 mins to get on the bus back to the car park.

Tread very carefully with unofficial parking companies

Gatwick official long stay car parks are the best option. price is fair if you book online in advance. It's quick & easy.

What I also didn't realize until the last time I used it, is that the 1st 2 hours are free. So if you are picking somebody up it's great.

Long Stay is great, park up and take your keys with you!

I've used Purple Parking in the past and never had any issues - they even coped with me driving a classic car with a manual choke smile

It IS an extra faff though and means adding even more up-front padding to your alarm clock and for the last few trips we've used the Gatwick Valet Parking option. Knowing you just have a short queue to drop off the keys, then a 30s walk and you in the terminal (and so an extra 30-60min in bed) is worth the extra money.
