Barbados or antigua?

We are looking to book a nice holiday for next april. Our original plan was to book a 14 night cruise around southern caribean, but the dates dont match for us to make it possible. So now we are looking for alternatives and we ideally would like to go to either barbados or antigua.
Ive been on about 10 cruises so have visited barbados and antigua everytime but only during 9am -4pm. Has anyone spent 2 weeks on either island that can give me some insight in which would be best. It would be a beach holiday with a little bit of sightseeing too, and we would like to keep the cost under £4k (inc food) for both of us plus spending money on trips etc 9ideally less if possible)
Are both places safe after dark? .Are we better all inclusive or doing our food thing for food? Any hotels that are recommended? etc
