which currency to use in Turkey

going to Turkey in June, and have had conflicting opinions on which currency to use out there, one travel agent has said that they only use the euro now, which seems strange as the Lira is shown in the newspapers exchange rates, so has anyone been recently and can give some advice?

also, how much do things like a beer or a coffee cost out there?
