Stag-do ideas?
Discussion
I've got to arrange my best mates stag-do at the end of January. Never done anything like this before so need some help.
Basic details are as follows:
26 of us
1 day and one night
Located relatively close to london
Thought about the usual stuff: paint balling, go-karting etc but the fact it's likely to be pretty cold and wet in January has put me off the paint balling. Clay pigeon shooting could mean lots of standing around while people aren't shooting.
No real ideas other than that.
Any ideas, experiences or pointers would be greatly received!

Trying to arrange a complex trip with loads of people (and getting them all to pay) is always a nightmare, so my advice would be to keep it simple. Monopoly or circle line type pub crawls are usually a laugh, don't take much organising, give everyone a chance to chat and people can spend as much or as little as they want.
First off, basing it in the UK and it being only one night away is a good idea as I hate the recent thing of having to go away to some city in Europe somewhere as it's bloody expensive, some go as they feel they have to and yet can't really afford to, my brother in law went to Barcelona for a weekend, my dad ened up paying for me to go as I initially said no but my sister put pressure on my dad to pay for me.
Also another good reason for the UK is if you are skint then you can easily only do a part of it, such as the piss up in the evening.
I got married in December and did paintballing in the rain, it was great fun and I think added to the day, but then I don't mind getting cold and wet.
How about just going up to London, doing a comedy show and getting pissed up?

A bit left field and i'm not sure on your budget but this could be good for the in the day activity:

A mate of mine had a cage-fighting day. A bit of training and tuition then a round robin tournament. It was great fun and even the wimps and older guys had a great time watching. But best to get it over well before the big day, black eyes don't look good in the wedding album.

My best man organised an outdoor activity day for my stag do.
Quad biking, archery, laser clay shooting and paint balling. They threw in a free all you can eat BBQ.
There were 16 of us in the day. 10 of us went for a pub crawl around Chester, followed by a night club. Great fun.
Have a look into something similar around London maybe?

Go to the (horse)races during the day then out after
we looked at this but there are no meets on the 31st. everybody is in their 30's with a few older guys - never heard of monopoly on the tube - might be interesting.its so hard trying to keep everyone happy.
thanks for the input guys.
In my experience, keep it simple.
Paintball is good fun, and part of the fun is getting st high, so you can clean up and dress up later if necessary. The same works for any other outdoorsie type stuff.
As for venue, if you're in good company, choose a good bar, that most of you can enjoy, and has an enlightened view about licencing hours. Organising a huge walk/taxi/drive around is a pain, and unnecessary, and likely to have some awols.
How about track day/driving experience, and the evening in a nearby venue that you can push on til dawn if necessary? Those that can't or don't want to shell out for the day, can enjoy the banter between those that did during the day.

not a bad idea. the biggest problem i think will be keeping everyone there for the day/night. pretty much everyone is already married with kids and i think there may be some that do a dissapearing act. if there was 10 of us, itd be easy. 26 is a bit of a PITA. called a few london bars we have connections to and they all were very iffy about the size of the group(even when i said it was for a birthday rather than a stag do)Paintball is good fun, and part of the fun is getting st high, so you can clean up and dress up later if necessary. off to do more googling.
I've organised a few so hopefully this advice will work for you:
Set the date as early as possible. This allows everyone to make sure they are available.
Try to find activities that the group can do as a whole. This makes for good banter and bonding opportunities for those that don't necessarily know each other. I went to a festival for stag once and whilst it was a great weekend, it was impossible to keep the group together and you spent half the weekend looking for people.
Don't put the activity suggestions out to committee - you won't get anything sorted. If you're in charge, make the decision and tell people, don't ask.
Make sure it's something the stag wants to do however.
Ensure there is at least one opportunity for ritual humiliation.
Good luck.
