I've got a few arc'teryx jackets and I don't think they can be touched for quality and fit. They are expensive but IMHO worth it. I've got their Sidewinder SV Gore-Tex shell that I bought for ski-ing in 2006 and has been worn loads since - it basically still looks brand new, whereas a North Face shell I bought 2 years ago is already looking tatty and mis-shapen in comparison
I've got a Kappa Hoody which sounds perfect for your needs, although it is 'only' windstopper so will probably eventually wet through in very heavy rain.

The alternative would be the Fission which is fully waterproof (but more £££)

I'd be extremely self conscious wearing one of those. Canada Goose

Top quality custom gear. If anything, I was too warm knobbing about in Antarctica last year

Alpha Industries stuff is good. I haven't got one of these but it looks pretty warm....

Agree on the PH Designs stuff posted above. I've got two of their sleeping bags and have slept out at -20C in Kazakhstan in December plus at high altitude in Chile / Argentina / Bolivia / Peru in my winter bag and it's ridiculously warm for it's packed size and weight.

Ridiculous!
Ever tried anything by Buffalo? I know lots of lads in my line of work swear by them ( they're often working outdoors and/or at night, in all weathers and seasons), especially the mountain shirt.
This one should be warm enough for you; http://www.buffalosystems.co.uk/products/mountain-...

I would recommend Jöttnar
New company. Highly technical mountain wear but looks great on the street too.
Exquisite quality. They are now kitting out the big Scottish mountain rescue teams. I've already got one of their mid layers and I'll be buying one of their hydrophobic down jackets for Christmas.

I've had a Helly Hansen jacket for about four years now which is awesome for winter.
The nearest to it in the current range is the "Spectrum" jacket, however my jacket doesn't have the weird racing stripe running down the front of it.

Canada Goose stuff looks good, but there is a fair amount of controversy over their use of coyote fur and the trapping methods used in obtaining the fur.Canada Goose
