Inspired (or perhaps just shamelessly pinched) by the 'things you wish you'd kept' thread, which is an interesting read, I wondered what people had kept, and what had proven to be worth something?

I've still got a huge box of Tiger comics from the seventies, kept from when I was a child. They're a massive nostalgia fest, but according to Ebay they don't seem to be worth anything much yet.

I've also got a late seventies Casio CQ-81 calculator on my desk which was given to me new and must be 40 years old. Still works (still pretty worthless!)

My Grandad left me his trainset when he died. I thought it would be worth a bomb as a kid, but it's all tri-ang stuff and none of it is boxed.

Not worth something yet, but I kept a limited edition 2012 Olympics Coca Cola bottle, unopened.

Hopefully worth something by the time it finds it's way in to the grand childrens hands in maybe 50 years.

I've got an original U2 iPod, completely unused, which has been sat on a shelf in my study since I won it as a prize at a company away-day. Looked on google thanks to this thread, and it appears they go for $4k eek on Amazon. Time to get rid methinks!

I thought of getting one of those (they were only a little more expensive than a normal iPod) and a friend talked me out of it. That's annoying - I still have the iPod that I bought instead and it's in good condition with its box

Jesus! Depending on how handy the money is to you I'd be tempted to hold on to that for a decade or two longer. Hopefully then it could become sports car money bounce

Same here, a load of pirate lego. All mixed up in the loft, but still have the instructions. If it was all still boxed it would be worth a small fortune.

On a similar vein I have some of my dad's dinky cars from the 50's. Apparently one of them is pretty rare and would potentially be worth 4 figures... trouble is it's been well and truly used over the years and long past it's best.

An Escort RS2000 genuine Ford workshop manual ,bit faded ,no greasy finger prints.

The cars are worth a fortune ,surely a nice manual to go with it could be worth a bit more than it was in the 80s.

Pretty much the only stuff from my childhood left and certainly the only stuff of any value. We didn't keep any boxes though and I'd like my kids to play with it so i recently, and very painstakingly, built it all (the nostalgia was overwhelming having not seen any of it for 25 years). I now love Lego again and will probably start collecting the sets i never had:

Some sets, especially if boxed etc are worth far more than any of that lot though.

I have a boxed ‘Ultra Magnus’ transformer that I’ve had since 1986. Last time I looked it was worth £70-100.

I was only 9 when I decided to keep it that way for investment purposes - yeah I was a weird kid.

For no real reason other than the fact that I liked them - probably influenced by my grandparents who were big advocates started collecting art deco figures in my teens - trips to france and the advent of the uk bootsale trend coincided with deco being out of fashion so some real bargains had (for those that appreciate several Menneville's, Lorenzls, Chiparus and my favourite - Rochard) all had with the max paid sub £50 - run of the mill stuff just got stored as trades that I never got around to - was just a hobby as I really liked the form and a few hoarding tendencies fortunately developed....
Ultimately prices picked up so a few lesser ones or those bearing damage were traded out for things I wanted. There was no hint of doing it for investment purposes - but prices for prime items now stratospheric and climbing - roll on to 2018 and the current collection of upwards of 100 is now painfully insured for £100K.......being the "odd kid" sometimes pays off!!! .

I also inhertied my father & uncles' Trix Twin Railway as a kid - must be genes but they'd always played gently and put the sets away in their boxes when finished - all were definitely well used but pristine - a few years back when ebay "broke" I hoovered up lots of boxed stuff for peanuts.....half my roof is given over to it - rarely used and still worthless!!! - it's time will come...maybe!

I have a Sinclair ZX81 boxed as new. Hopefully one day it may be worth a few quid.
