Firstly I stopped 4 years ago after 40 years of loving every tab I had. I used Champix and to be honest never craved a smoke from the day I stopped. I miss it every day but don't want/crave a smoke as I know I'd be hooked again immediately.
Anyway, are there any smokers left because I very rarely see one. There is a cigarette bin outside where I work and it used to need emptying regularly it now hasn't been emptied for many months. I live within 100 yards of 3 pubs and never see the huddled masses outside.
I do see many vapers particularly the school kids on their way to and from school so it's obviously the new smoking.
So, do you still smoke?

I don’t smoke, but I do vape which is probably worse. With a cigarette, you lit it, smoked it and stubbed it out - finished. With vaping, it’s an almost continuous process (if you want it to be) with no natural end point, so my vape is almost a permanent fixture in my hand.
I would never smoke in my car, but do vape and the state of the windows suggest that it isn’t good. It does mean that I get more exercise though, because cleaning the inside of the car glass takes some effort.

Gave up about ten years ago with willpower and that Allen Carr book.
Do miss it though. Loved smoking. Struggle a bit with weight ever since as I used to exist on fags and tea. But it was becoming harder to smoke in public and I was sick of being addicted to something and out of breath all the time.
It really does seem to have dropped off though. I work around a lot of trades who all used to smoke. Very few seem to anymore. Likewise if I go out drinking there’ll only be one or two that are nipping out for a smoke, whereas it used to seem like the majority.
And all the young un’s take up vaping instead these days.

Stopped in 2012, went cold turkey along with my mrs. which was a total nightmare for a fortnight or so.
How we didn't kill each other is beyond me!
Haven't smoked since, in fact the thought of putting a fag in my mouth is just so disgusting I really wonder how we did it for so many years.
How much is a box of 20 these days?![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)

I've never smoked in my life - I've never even taken a drag off a cigarette - so maybe I'm more sensitive to it and therefore more likely to see people smoking. As such, I do notice people smoking still... I say "still", it's more "new starters" that I see. When I'm in the office a group of us usually go for long walk at lunchtime. This takes us thorugh a park adjacent to a large school. The amount of teenagers I see in their school uniforms either smoking cigarettes, smoking weed or vaping is quite surprising. It's like it's coming back with a vengeance.Sheets Tabuer said:

Eventually stopped in 2009 - smoking ban came in and sod standing out in the freezing cold just to have a smoke.

I gave up in 2010 after 35 years or so of 10-15 per day. For the 10 years or so up to giving up I was always traveling o'seas (mainly Switzerland) with work so never bought any other than duty free. Last I paid was about £25 for 200. Thought they might be about a tenner for 20 now but £17!! No wonder folk have stopped.markymarkthree said:
Loved smoking and would start again tomorrow, it is only the price that stopped me.
I swear I was smarter when I used to smoke. I switched to rollies in the later years so the price wasn’t too bad. What did it for me was the ban in pubs etc. I held on for another few years but having to stand outside in the cold really made it obvious that it was a pointless addiction.

I was just about to become a teenager at the time, I recall it well because I was with 4 school pals who did try and all went on to continue smoking bar one. I've never had any inclination to do so.
That was 60 yrs ago!
Just lately I have noticed more cig butts littering our town than I've seen in ages. I walk past a 'Spoons daily here they've put a cig butt bin outside and it's packed with butts, and the path always has smokers who come outside for a drag.
Never smoked, apart form the odd try when a teenager, my sister neither which is odd as both of our parents were heavy smokers.
We've a few at work who still regularly smoke, the Eastern Europeans tend to chain smoke, there are flats above work, regularly one of the occupants is either hanging out of the window smoking or sitting by the communal front door, she leaves her dog ends on the forecourt!!
Daughter's boyfriend is a heavy smoker, my daughter used to which is odd as she was always on at my dad for him smoking, she now vapes.
They are still out there but yes far less than there used to be.
Someone mentioned when they see it in films and TV series of or set in a certain era, you don't realise how widespread and popular smoking was in the past, this is just so true, I remember starting out working, smoking was perfectly acceptable in the workplace.

This was me, as my Grandad says "if we were meant to smoke we would have been born with a chimney" Me neither.
