I've oft wondered, and can come up with theories, but I don't know the answer, by any means. Two things that bother me, and I personally consider to be child abuse, but the law doesn't seem to consider it so:

1) Smoking whilst obviously pregnant. Could also apply to heavy drinking.

2) Piercing the ears of children too young to have a say in the matter.

Pourquoi?

Giving the little blighters a smack when they're naughty would appear to be illegal.

Some parents are st.

But they're still allowed to be parents.

No justice.

Agree about both. However if you stopped a woman from doing what she wanted whilst pregnant it would no doubt be classed as a breach of her human rights and that opens up a whole new argument!

I think you will find that if you stop a woman from doing what she wanted whilst pregnant it would more than likely end up in death.... yours!!

A firm smack to the buttocks as a last resort.

But only if I plead.

Ear piercing is a good one. Also I've often wondered how willing are the participants of those redneck child beauty paegents?

This IMO is distasteful:

That's disgusting.

I abhor it when people try and dress their kids to look older.

They may as well have sign on their foreheads saying "i'm up for it"

So you don't want her smoking or drinking because it damages the babies health. What about having an abortion, which doesn't do the baby much good?

That is a completely different matter. An abortion is final and will not affect a child's quality of life. There are laws on when terminations can be carried that prevent them being carried out when the foetus has developed more into a person. Whether you agree with it or not is a contentious issue but not relevant to this topic IMO. Heavy smoking / drinking / drug abuse during pegnancy can cause health problems for the child after birth.

everything in moderation, my wife physically did not feel like having a drink whilst pregnant but the odd glass of wine is not going to do any damage IMO (and no I am not a doctor) same could be said for the odd fag. There is a big difference between that and a bottle of wine every night and 20 fags

could not agree more with ear piercing not only does it look awful but you could argue a case for child abuse due to pain and physical damage

smacking; the lack of smacking/'clip round the ear' is part of what has turned our children into disaffected disrespectful oiks

the other thing i find extremeley weird in present teaching is the teaching of 5/6 year olds, sex education and about gay/lesbians, very odd thing to do IMO, I could almost argue the case that this is bordering on peadophilia!!!!

no it's not.....THINK it through.

there are plenty of middle class families that dont smack and the kids are fine. Mine are hardly ever smacked, and i mean almost never, and they are fine.......however, you go and find some of these nasty "oiks" you refer to and i'll bet they HAVE been smacked - in fact, i would suggest the level of smacking rises as the quality of the kids on the streets falls.......all smacking does is teaches kids that hitting out is an acceptable punishmnet. It's primary beniift to the adult is to make them feel better/vent. Go talk to some of the knife carrying thugs on the street and the odds are they have seen the business end of their dads/stepdads/mums boyfrineds belt plenty!

shoud add....i'm not a leftie wacko - i have 4 kids from teen to toddler and if i thought smacking was of any use in developing them i'd happily wack em all day long! I just dont belive it works......same as a death penalty doesnt stop killers killing.

I think many will disagree with that.

Should people with a family history of illness have babies if there is a risk that the baby will be born with a serious health problem?

Slippery slope dictating who and how people should have kids IMHO.
