ebay removed advert
Discussion
I am selling a business on ebay, I have put it as buy it now or best offer.
I was also going to put it for sale elsewhere. so put that in add
ebay have removed the advert with the following message. (Why do they have to use their own messages system and not email you?)

Unfortunately, we had to remove your item because the way it was listed breaches our policy:
You stated in your listing "This is also advertised elsewhere".
How long has this been happening? I could understand if this was a auction with no reserve but this is a business for sale which they would have to view. You stated in your listing "This is also advertised elsewhere".

It does seem a strange rule that you agree to give eBay exclusivity on this kind of ad but rules is rules, etc.
I'd just relist it without the "disclaimer".
No doubt this will turn into an eBay /Paypal bashing thread
I had a ad pulled at the weekend for exactly the same reason, because I had also put it in the local paper. I just relisted it, and it sold on the "Buy-it-now" about 15 minutes later!I'd just relist it without the "disclaimer".
No doubt this will turn into an eBay /Paypal bashing thread

Not really, it's the same rule for live auctions. Once you have agreed terms with the auctioneers and the auction has begun then you can't pull the item out. To attempt to sell by other means during an auction is inappropriate. Sell by advertising or by auction but not both at the same time. hora said:
Its a hidden message as in 'make me an offer'?
I dont like ebay, I always contact sellers directly- anything to avoid lining ebay's pockets.
Ebay/paypal - bashing? You can only bash something that deserves bashing..
Hardly a hidden message on a BIN or Best Offer sale is it?I dont like ebay, I always contact sellers directly- anything to avoid lining ebay's pockets.

I bloody hate tts like you who insist on putting :reserve to end early as its listed elsewhere" crap. Its just a lame excuse to end the auction if its not reaching the money you want. Well boo fking hoo, try putting the reserve to what you want next time, instead of wasting everyones fking time.

However, this is not an auction we are discussing as far as I can see so surely a "classified ad" can be placed anywhere?

Did you actually read the OP or are you just feeling like shouting random bks? Rotary, completly understand your rattle being thrown out, but this was a Buy it now or best offer. It is not an Auction. I do not agree with the statement on auctions but this was not an auction. it was Buy it now or best offer.
To others, there are better places to sell but thought take a punt on ebay before getting newspaper ads etc.
Made the post as I had not seen this happen before.

I hate people that want to sell their goods for the most they can get them for too. It's just NOT FAIR. They should all be selling them at 1/10th their value, but only to me, not any other bidders. It's just NOT FAIR that they can try and play a system to make the most of their assets when I'm trying to get something for nothing. OP - I didn't know it was in their terms either, I always used the line in listing that I would also (sensibly) advertise elsewhere and never had an ad pulled yet for it.
Did have an Ad pulled for noting I'd accept offers on something I wanted shifting quickly though!

If i thought the seller was wanting too much, i just wouldn't bid, not whine i thought it was too much.

Well now you're just being stupid. If they want to sell it for so much, I've no problem with that. Stick it up with that amount as the reserve, and if it doesn't sell, tough. Don't go listing it with a stupidly low amount that you have no intention of letting it go for, and when it doesn't reach what you want, pulling it with some crap excuse that it was sold elsewhere 10 seconds before the listing ends.

My point is that people will do everything to make the most of their assets, it's something you simply have to accept if you are going to use a site like ebay. Much more common is to put it on at 1p then get a mate to bid against you till it's up to the price they expected for it - only difference is you don't know when they are doing that.If i thought the seller was wanting too much, i just wouldn't bid, not whine i thought it was too much.
I rarely put BIN but always used to be "open to offers" and several times had people offer way, way more than I valued an item at to end an auction early. Call me unscrupulous but if stupid people want to give me money for my old tat I'm not going to stop them.
