My greyhound got injured playing. Doesn't seem to be causing him any pain and we cleaned it without any complaints.
Does it require stitching? Or should we just continue cleaning?

Definitely a trip to the vets that one. My rule is if in doubt, get them to the vets. I would imagine that would need stitches. Doesn't look like it's about to heal itself!

If you had cuts like these would you be at A and E or posting pics on line asking whether you should go?

Definitely quicker and less painful healing if stitched.

Vets. Less scarring and quicker healing if stitched.

Just asking folks. Anyway booked into vets. Was much smaller last night so we just cleaned it up.
He's not bothered by it and have just cleaned it again.
Will update later. Not really sure they could stitch as it's very thin fur, glue maybe??

Editing to add it's a tear in his fur, skin underneath is fine. Pic looks worse because it's wet. Didn't bleed at all really just a tiny bit on his bed this morning.

Not to mention a little bit less "playing" in the near future to protect the injury.

TBH honest he the worlds least playful dog anyway. No need to say rest to him, he rarely moves from his bed anyway.

Sounds like my whippet, though he does play, he likes his bed aswell! Problem is skin is a protective barrier against infection a small cut can close over in couple days, when it is wider as in this case causes slower healing and more risk of infection and as I said bigger scar which is best avoided.

Right been to the vets.
Vet said it would heal on it's own but would take a good 3 or 4 weeks.
So i've booked him in for an op to have it cleared out and repaired.

£180 so not good but could be worse. Other dog owner is paying half as it's was just a playing incedent.

Oh he was playing with a doberman. As i said wasn't a bit more a snag of the tooth, greyhounds are very thins skinned and prone to this.

Just waiting now for the call to bring him home later.

My whippet played with a dobi couple years ago, he ended up with a huge (saucer sized) wound on his chest, through muscle layers etc had to xray as not sure if had got pneumothorax or not, fluids for shock couldn't stitch for 4 weeks. Took 4 weeks of every other day dressing changes then the stitches etc. total bill £1.2k thank god for insurance!!

The other dog wasn't nasty just got carried away, dobi's do seem to be a bit nippy when playing.

Even more sleepy greyhound tonight then smile

Yep, he sure will be quiet tonight.

Only been gone a couple of hours but the house sure is quiet. Never normally at home without the old mutt.

get pet insurance.

my dad estimated it saved him over £500 in vet's bills when we had a greyhound. they injure VERY easily, ours split its pads after the first week of field walks.
