Currently residing in NZ and this thread is making me homesick!

The atmosphere and mood of a proper pub, hell I even miss gastropub affairs.

An "English Chinese" takeaway. I can't find anywhere like Mr wongs typical chinese takeaway on the highstreet anywhere in the world

Full english.

Our ability to have an ordered sensible que.

Cheap everyday items (toothpaste, magazines etc)

World class music scene

The history

Our humour

Decent bacon

Double sausage and egg mcmuffin with a hangover

Cynicism

Decent motorways

and many others I've forgotten.

God how I miss blighty, it really is a fantastic place.
so the grass is not greener... good to hear the other side of the argument!

so if you moved back to UK, what would you miss about NZ?

music scene i totally agree with but again i wouldn't call it a 'little' thing. music plays a very important part of my life and i miss being able to choose between an array of niche [indie/rockabilly/northern soul/blues etc.] clubs of a weekend. there is one generic monthly indie night here and that's it. the radio has a smaller playlist than even radio 1 and even then those songs were realeased a year ago or more!

my nomination would be motorway flyovers. simple on/off and a roundabout to allow access in any direction.

Catch a grip. You can't honestly say that, for example, the pubs in Belfast are better then in GB? The beer in 99% of them is cold, fizzy, pasteurised, shi-ite for a start. And unless you're in the city centre there are whole parts of Belfast where there are hardly any pubs at all, at least none that you'd want to go into. The idea of a decent local boozer just doesn't exist.

And outside Belfast is just teeming with lovely country pubs isn't it? I think not!

Our history. Not just the fact that there's so bloody much of it, but all the things the nation has done. The long history of the Royal family (even if you're not a Royalist), the development of the Church of England, the Empire (come on, we're a tiny island and we occupied a quarter of the known world, I know a lot of it isn't nice but it's damn impressive!), standing up to Germany twice when no one else could manage it/wanted to do it.

Admittedly recent history hasn't been that great so we lose points on that count.
Where do I start?

OK let's start with "standing up to Germany twice when no one else could manage it/wanted to do it."

British Army WW1 (fatal) casualties: 885,138

British Army WW1 wounded: 1,663,435

French Army WW1 (fatal) casualties: 1,397,800

French Army WW1 wounded: 4,266,000

Theres alot that isnt greener here!

Off the top of my head:

The people, genuinely funny and nice

the scenery

the mountain roads

insurance being a choice and as such much cheaper, also it being necessary to spend a year as a restricted driver banning night time driving and driving without a passenger with a full licence

"Small government"

less worries

common sense culture.

V8's

The climate

oh and the pies, the bloody pies they are amazing.

But as this is a thread about the UK I will add another thing that makes Britain great is Heinz beans.

According to your profile, here appears to be Belfast. . . . . .
Belfast is in the United Kingdom, but not in Great Britain
Did I say it wasn't?

Just goes to show how much easier it is to shoot people when they are surrendering/running away.

I drink spirits or wine, not fizzy slightly alcoholic water to be fair so probably not the best person to ask but there are a few of pubs in Belfast serve proper ales if you are english and like that sort of thing and yes in smaller towns and in the country there are plenty of decent pubs, plenty of rubbish ones too.

There are whole areas in parts of cities in England with no decent pubs at all, ive had more hassle more fighting more comments about not being from the area and more generally bad experiences in England mostly in Bristol, Canterbury and so on than anywhere in NI.

Maybe you have only been in crap pubs but there are plenty to choose from.

And then go into a decent pub when an events on and the atmosphere is so much nicer than in english pubs, less yobs for a start.

I think the ellipsis suggests that was a genuine error, but hey ho who am I!

Further to the point above - I don't particularly care for English pubs, but generally adore a quintessentially 'Belfast' pub. But that's no different to you guys loving English pubs, and I certainly wouldn't criticise. To say there are few 'decent local boozers' in Belfast is to betray the fact you're not local, and therefore cannot know. There are many, many country pubs outside Belfast, however. The place quite literally is teeming with them. I know because I'm at a different one most weekends!

The climate. We may bh, we may moan, but out of everywhere in the world I've been I've always come home to our weather and been thankful for it - it's never too hot, it's never too cold. Yes, it's wet but it's not uncomfortable.
Never too cold?!!?

Yeah but the plugs are much dam better than the two prong ones on the continent.

It just feels right with them being large and clunky. How a plug should be.
And I miss that great British trait of burying ones head in the sand and outright insisting, "Well, everything is just bloody better in England, innit?"

hehe
