They were pretty open to it to all the honkies in work - they were openly eating in there, but pretending to all the muslims at home/mosque they were fasting. All a bit bizarre really...

To me you're either religious or you aren't. I think anyone who believes in all that st is a complete retard but at least I'd respect them for sticking to it. No respect at all for someone who's pretending laugh
As you say, very bizarre.

Was reading that if you can not fast because of medical reasons you have to pay somthing like £280.
No, if you cannot fast you donate the cost of breaking a fast for the whole month to the poor/needy smile

Although £280 may well be right
I bet the cheaters wont pay over a penny, anyone donating?

Do wonder whatever happened to Officer Tanveer Hussain who had been fasting for sixteen hours (claim of 16hrs on a website, not verified). And was unable to carry out his job

BBC broadcast on 23rd June 2011 - an episode of ‘Traffic Cops’ entitled ‘Running on Empty’.

Yeah remember this well.

Hopefully sacked to be honest.

I might get in on this actually, religion is a load of twaddle but I have nothing but respect for the Islamers who can pull it off. I work with a few and every year I'm impressed by their dedication to it.
Seems like lunacy to me, starving yourself in the name of an imaginary friend. hehe

Said I'd do it honourarily last year but didn't manage it.

Second day in and so far so good for me, I was quite unwell last year so missed many, so I'm glad I am able to get a good start in this year. You really appreciate how lucky you are to be able to fast when you miss out like that

My Uncle is in Dubai next week as part of his honeymoon. Is there anything he needs to be aware of?
It's currently 41C, humid as hell and Ramadan. Not the best time to be visiting Dubai.
Dubai is pretty much OK during Ramadan, pretty relaxed in comparison to other times. Just needs a bit of forward planning.

A lot of restaurants do offer takeaway during daytime hours, and we found the likes of Subway were generally open near the hotel - our routine had been pool in the morning, lunch in our room before we went out for the afternoon, and dinner around sunset. Restaurants can be busy around that time for obvious reasons.

A lot of hotels do Ramadan meals after sunset, the one at the Sheraton in Jumerah Beach is pretty popular and well worth it.

How did UK Muslims in Mo's time manage with the long daylight hours?

Is it time to adapt to what is practical in 2014? And whilst you are it, look at the whole notebook. smile

Anybody got any tips on a balanced healthy tasty meal to break the fast?

Night before last it was Chese and onion pasty with baked potatoes and some veg.
Last night was 2 plates of pilau rice with scrambled egg & tuna

Don't do it, it's stupid. Be a good person all year round then there's no need.

There you go.

It is my first fast since converting last August and I am surprisingly not finding it difficult at all!
Had a little headache yesterday but that was all.

Just out of interest, and without wanting to get anyone's back up, why did you convert?

Not finding it difficult at all. Its the same every year with everyone saying its going to be hard this year. After a couple of days you tend to get used to it. Find im concentrating much better now also

Some odd interpretation of fasting. A friend I worked with in a hot car workshop got something in his eye at work. Tears were streaming down his face but he wouldn't wash his eye out with water incase any went in his mouth. It was awful to watch and if I was the workshop controller I would've sent him home.
