This actually makes sense. (Not the nationality bit mind)

We have some contractors come to where I work recently, to fix the building AC. They are obviously charging my employer for this to be done. But for some inexplicable reason they don't bring the right tools for the job and expect to be able to borrow tools from myself or my colleagues or even the company.

Many years ago, another company I worked for had a builder that turned up on a bike every time. Same story, virtually no tools.

Too much to ask for them to have the right equipment?
It doesnt make sense at all. They are delivery drivers, not repair men.

If they turned up in a sports car I would consider it a valid point, the fact they came to pick up the TV and it was still attached to the house made the job a whole lot more difficult than they had anticipated. Upon trying to be helpful and offering to remove the house from the TV, the OP refused to lend them basic tools which would have enabled them to do the job and take the TV away.

Unfortunately the OP - and his family - were arse holes, and then he comes on here with a comic ditty about John Lewis which struggles to raise a smile, let alone being up for joke of the year.

Given that probably 70% of people have their TV mounted on the wall I think you're being silly if it's not to be anticipated that sometimes a TV will need to be removed safely by a trained professional (with the requisite insurance!) If JL aren't employing the right people, giving them training and/or the right tools for the job that's their stupidity.

What's next? Expecting the owner to give them a hand lifting it into their van? After all the delivery drivers a bit tired he's been lifting TVs all day..

Do you give the AA a hand strapping down your car if he's loading it onto his wagon? Or leave it to him as someone that does it every day and SHOULD have the right equipment to do the job you are PAYING him for?

Do you get annoyed when your postman doesn't up your mail & file your bills?

Yup.

If they didn't mount it, why should they risk taking it down/damage etc.

ETA: Curry's/Dixon's etc would have told her to Foxtrot Oscar no doubt.

In a slight defence of the OP, John Lewis drivers are also fit the items they deliver, the same drivers also remove returned items as well.

78% of statistics are made up....

Not many people mount their TV on walls, I would be fairly sure that most TVs are on a stand.

I think I know 1 person with a wall mounted TV everyone else still have it on a table, I've lived in recent years in Hampshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire so it's not like I'm sheltered away in the highlands.

A friend told me a story of when they started working for JL, a long term customer purchased a painting from the store, got it delivered and then installed it above their bed themselves. Cue a couple of days later when the painting fell on top of them in bed a disgruntled call to JL complaining!

Much to the amazement of my friend the manager apologised and instructed them to send out an expensive bouquet of flowers as an apology. The managers thinking was she will tell 10 people a JL painting fell off the wall but she will tell 20 people JL sent her some flowers. A very good lesson in customer services there.

Thank you. Same as Currys with their "know how" people They aren't JUST delivery drivers. They are installation teams (or somesuch ste)

As for the comment about the mail. Well there you go. I'd get pissy if the postman said "can you come and get it from the depot, my bikes got a puncture" I'd expect a company like Royal Mail or John Lewis to be able to deal with "things that might happen during our work day" Not carrying a screwdriver is one of those things.

I'd be extremely surprised if it was anywhere near that percentage.

Off the top of my head I can't think of a single family member or friend of mine who has a wall mounted TV.

I stopped selling TVs over two years ago, but back then 70% would have been absolute fantasy! Can't see it changing much in that time.

having worked at Comet and Currys, only some of the delivery teams were install trained, guessing JL would be the same?

From my statistically invalid sample size of say, 10 friends houses, none have, to my memory, a wall mounted TV. Ours has a chain attached to prevent a toddler/dunkard pulling it over, but that is unclipped in seconds without tools.

I was Comet delivery crew, maximum 30% wall mounted.
