See my post yesterday at 3.22pm.. A gentleman through and through. Old school. Will sign anything and turn up at the opening of an envelope.

I second an earlier shout for Prince Philip. The world will be a more boring place when he departs this earth. Except he's Greek.......

I quite like Sir Nicholas Winton

I like his 100th birthday celebrations too! and he's still bashing on at 105.

Because heroism/courage is only one facet of a man's character. There are so many other aspects to take into account. It's easy to get carried away by the medal - what else do we know about these men?

Not technically a man but surely Her Maj must be in with a shout. She is after all the commander in chief. So she has resisted pushing the button and getting rid of us lot!!laugh

I know this will upset the republicans amongst us, but I reckon that, on the whole, she's done a top job. There's been a few blips (e.g. Dianagate) but she's not put much of a foot wrong for 60+ years. Assuming we remain a monarchy, I'm guessing she will be regarded in retrospect as one of the "great" monarchs of our lengthy history.

Sits back and waits for the "sponging off the people" brigade..........

Hawking, Attenborough or Berners-Lee. Probably swaying towards Hawking ultimately - his name will be known for a long, long time.

Torn between Ranulph and Andy Green; reckon that Andy Green is more deserving of such an award.
