An update on my search for "smart-casual" boots ahead of my work Xmas do on Thursday night, I ended up picking up a pair of these for a smidge under £300 from Jeffery-West in Leeds at the weekend. I know there's a bit of snobbery about the brand form some on here but for my money, these look the business with a decent pair of jeans.

All I have to do now is convince myself to spend £160 more than I would have done for Barkers, which might have been much easier to do had I not just bought one of their overcoats.

I see what you did there!
The website says the shoes are made in Northampton. Having toured several shoe factories, I have never heard of a N&L factory there.
They have a whiff of Crockett&Jones about them, but they seem much cheaper than the C&J Handgrade line that shares a similar looking sole.

You are quite correct in suggesting that they are made by one of the better known brands that also inhabit Jermyn St.
I believe I was told once or read somewhere who it is, but can't remember for the life of me.
I will see if I can wheedle it out of them Saturday.
N&L has (fairly) recently extended the shop to include a dedicated shoe department, taking advantage of a good deal of refurbishment taking place along Jermyn St and in the arcades over recent months.
To my understanding, the N&L shoes designs are influenced by their own designers. I believe though, in spite of the suggestion that they appear cheaper, that N&L shoes carry a slight premium over the manufacturers price for similar models.
With soles like those, you would want your feet up on the desk all day for others to enjoy, and to bask in the reflected glory.

Looking at Goaty Bill's er....challenging potential purchase brought these to mind.......
Do any of the bolder members here have any spats, other than for wearing at 1920's gangster themed parties? I don't think I've ever seen a pair in the wild; maybe I don't move in the right circles.
My father has promised to leave me his. They are older than any of us.Do any of the bolder members here have any spats, other than for wearing at 1920's gangster themed parties? I don't think I've ever seen a pair in the wild; maybe I don't move in the right circles.
Not quite the same level of heirloom as the handing down of father's Crombie overcoat.
But as he's never owned an overcoat, they will have to do.
Aside from evening dinners at vintage car gatherings, I have to admit that I haven't seen them out and about. There are always a few chaps sporting them for the Sunday night Dinner of the London to Brighton. That's probably the last time my father wore his.

Well, yeah, until you wore them outside for the first time I suppose. The appearance of the sole has never prompted me to buy a pair of shoes.

I was over at New&Lingwood last week and checked out their shoes. It does look very similar to Crockett&Jones..I'm 99% pretty sure it is.

You may have guessed, it was hardly the soles that caught my notice initially.
But when I did finally look at them, I thought it would be rude not to include the photo for the benefit of the aficionados.

Though I admit I am struggling to conjure up an image of those shoes with a tweed suit.
