Get shout, Balls of steel.

The mound of earth from where he tried the canton jump is still there. It's on my list of places to visit one day.

His son doing the Caesars Palace jump is a good watch, and there is also an Evel Kniev museum.

They don't make them like Evel any more.

A few people have mentioned him so here’s James in an iconic picture.

Grand Prix victory - Check
Current World Champion - Check
McLaren M26 - Check
Fag - Check
Beer - Check
Penthouse Centrefold - Check
Big Smile - Check

James Hunt was a fascinating character and most assuredly cool.

This guy was pretty cool when I was growing up...
Very cool, though I doubt he knew it or cared, which is rather the point.

ETA for the youngsters, he was Jacques Cousteau, inventor of scuba diving and he took us TV viewers down beneath the waves to see the silent world.

This whole thread proves once again that the age profile of piston heads is rather old. I wonder what the average age of forum posters is.
Indeed. No mention yet of Leonardo da Vinci.

I think some people just have 'it', whatever 'it' is, no matter what their profession....

Don't know who that is, but if it wasn't his Ferrari he's leaning against he's only a step away from this guy:

Not only is it his Ferrari but it is widely known as the James Coburn Ferrari...

https://newatlas.com/automotive/worlds-first-10-mi...

Coburn is cool but the car is cooler...

Give it time. I really think if we did a survey of age on this place now the average would come out mid 50s with it only being that low because of some young outliers.

I have a lot of time for this guy, he’s very talented.

If we’re doing you tubers then Ogmios and his school of zen motoring.

It would be good to get a concensus of who or what is cool, an overused word if you listen to people such as Wayne Carrini and much of the US population who only have one word meaning better than average which is Awesome,

Indeed. I’m couldn’t agree more tbh.
Yeah I was thinking exactly the same as well.
The problem is perhaps a lot of new stars just aren't cool. Youtubers, boy and girl bands, stormzy, premiership footballers, lewis Hamilton. All very good at what they do but cool is something else subjective perhaps but its its something you are or you are not. Steve McQueen was, Tom cruise isn't. Yet the latter is much more successful. James Hunt, Lewis Hamilton, the Latter again way more successful perhaps will be the greatest ever....not cool.

Maybe the modern pc world won't allow it after all james hunt was a womaniser, smoker and a drinker today he would not be allowed at a big f1 team

I don’t think that’s the problem at all. The problem of you want/need to class it as such is that people under 40 generally don’t consider things to be cool/uncool

I certainly wouldn’t think that smoking and drinking are monikers of perceived cool yet many here seem to which is just odd (to me).

No actor can ever be the coolest person to exist.

They’re actors, falsely playing a role of someone else, the same goes for Clint, Burt, McQueen etc.

A cool person is someone like the few posted on here so far ie James Hunt, Joe Dunlop, or someone who has discovered something that has changed the world forever since, not a mime luvvie who has made a career out of it.

Agree with this and I’m not under 40. The problem also is that a lot of these so called “cool” people here are actually playing a character and / or creating a persona and that automatically is not cool because it is not real. A cool person does not need to be famous, well known or any of that.
