Yay, just booked my Christmas holidays

Finish on the 21st and don't go back until the 4th smile

Now for some that might not seem unusual, but as a shift worker for the last 27 years but on days at the moment, for me its EPIC

Last year I worked 12 hour days 25th & 26th then 12 hour nights 27th & 28th. By the time I had finished working, it was all over and in those 27 years, it was the worst Christmas working I had ever done.

Decs willbe going up gradually this week.
Going early for the Grandchildren (& me)
Not the first in my road.

Happy Days!

I'm starting to get in the mood now I've nearly finished my Christmas shopping. I like to have it all done before 1st December if I can.

20 working days left for me this year and then it's complete shut down until the 2nd of January

3 weeks today and I’ll be done for the year. I reckon next week is when I’ll really start feeling the excitement.
Christmas music and decorating is holding for end of the month.

Now being guarded about anything I buy as the wife has previous for grabbing it and giving it me for Christmas !

I have a Raspberry Pi 5 on order, I happened to mentioned it earlier when she saw some other kit I dug out for it, and she asked if I want it for Christmas "When does it arrive", so I told her straight that I dont want it wrapping up and delaying for another five weeks if its all the same. Might just hand her the box with an older PI in biggrin I cant imagine she will spot the difference between a 2 or a 3 and a 5.

Its just annoying, need to set it up and use it.

She asks for ideas of stuff I want for Christmas, I fancy a remote control car again "Not buying you that", so we have to come up with something she wants for me biggrin Why bother asking !!!!

Didnt offer any suggestions for my recent birthday so she presents me with some aftershave, I tried it but like all aftershaves it smells alright for about ten minutes then you are sick to death of it and cant get away with from it, always try them on in duty free and then regret it sat on the plane smelling like a DFS Salesmens convention.

I picked up a new tree for the living room (8ft), but panicked because the box was bigger than expected and worried it was going to be too big. quickly stuck it together, and it fits great, but it’s back in its box until december. probably need to buy new lights and decorations (wife says the colours don’t match our new living room colour)

really excited for christmas now, need to start doing some shopping tho! normally we’ve started, but not even thought what to get people let alone my daughter (4yrs old)

I'm quite exciting about this Christmas - catered for 46 last year, down to 32 this year.

geeks Christmas Lights Show Extravaganza is pretty much all prepped now, will be starting to get the house decorated this weekend, expecting it to take me a couple of days to get everything installed then a few more days of testing to get it all working and sync'd and then I shall treat you all to a preview.

Other than that cake continues to be fed, I have preordered the bird (and the turkey hehe) decs will come out of storage next weekend ready for next weekend when the tree(s!) etc all go up. Home stretch baby!

I think I'm going to go a bit nuts on the cheapy tacky st this year, and order a load of things like this and spend a day putting them up when Mrs UTH is still at work and hopefully she'll love the mega tacky but fun Christmas vibe I've put up.
For the record, I'm 99.9% sure she will love it. Some might not, I am aware

Actual Christmas day is just me, Mrs UTH and my Dad (well, and out 1 year old baby)

What would people do in terms of Turkey? Been looking at pre ordering but even the small ones from Waitrose, Sainsbury's etc say "up to" £60!! Although waitrose is saying £28-£60, but when I add to basket it's just saying £60!
Not sure I want to spend £60k on something for just three of us!

I've got all those in a box of old decorations in the attic, got to love the 80s biggrin

Mine will however be staying in the attic, along with the tree tongue out

43 year old here, no gf/wife, no kids, no reason to put anything up as I'll just have the faff of taking it back down again. Might do what I did at Covid Xmas, get pissed by lunchtime then start some DIY - painted the fence that afternoon hehe

Know what you mean.

The wife has several rolls of PLA filament and my new LCR meter sat in a box in the bedroom when I really need to check the inductance of a coil I have wound for the Apple Lisa's video circuit !

Having said that, I still have the colour graphics adapter for the DEC Rainbow to fit and the Acorn system 1 PCB to build from last Christmas !

Last year was the crazy countrywide tour of the oldies, lots of driving, lots of abstaining from drinking for the driver, lots of watching elderley people fall asleep in front of a blaring TV.

This year, we are doing it all again, but a few weeks before Christmas itself. Because on Christmas day, we'll be getting up, eating breakfast that's been cooked for us, exchanging a couple of gifts, then putting our boots on, grabbing our skis and going out to rip around the 3 Valleys for the day. Vin chaud, many beers, early finish, hot tub and Christmas dinner cooked for us again.

Twinkly lights and hopefully some proper snow, with a wide eyed seven year old in tow, it's going to be amazing, cannot bloody wait!

Christmas tree went up in the office yesterday. I work alone but all staff finish their day here and most were smiling about it (although I'd also tidied and am usually properly untidy)

Is there a "Not excited about Christmas 2023!" thread for all us grumpy middle aged men out there?

My girlfriend is in Australia at the moment and I am flying out on the 15th of December to join her and spend Christmas with her family. This means

1)I don't have to hear a single Christmas song before I leave as I never listen to the radio
2)Don't have to put any Christmas decorations up
3)Don't have to go to the work Christmas party as it is on while I am away

Bliss!

I did this a few years ago, pre-Covid when we were in the office 5 days per week, I went out to B&M or one of those type shops, and with about 30 quid bought a 6 foot tree, lights, and loads of cheap tinsel and tacky foil decorations laugh

The office looked like an episode of The Royle Family but it was great
