My motorbike is my main hobby but I don't get out on it nearly as much as I'd like. A lot of this is down to the ste weather in the UK but spare time is also a factor.

I dabble in a bit of mountain biking and try to get to the gym at least 3 times a week.

Perhaps PM me to avoid derailing the thread?

If someone asks me what I'm into, I'd say the following.

Cars
Mechanical Watches
Online gaming (COD specifically)
Campervans
Football
Beer (Mainly Trappist quads)
Hi-Fi
Live Music
I'm getting a real taste for whiskey and spiced rum, but my collection is small so not a true hobby, yet!

Probably a load more. I tend to get into "stuff" more than a lot of other people I know who just go to work, come home and watch TV.

Gardening (lucky that it's also my job)
Yeah this for me (and the bit in brackets too)
Wildlife watching/photography
LEGO

I have 1 and 4 year olds at the moment so realistically hobbies aren't a thing at the moment really unless they cross over with theirs (LEGO/garden etc)

Timely thread. I think I started something similar a couple of years ago and I still haven't found what I am looking for.

When I was a kid, it was fishing, fishing was everything.

Then I got into cars and spent a couple of years messing around with the car stereo's, crap mod's etc. That then morphed into owning a Westfield for 16 years and that was a massive hobby, driving it, club days, maintaining it, modifying it, etc.

Eventually I moved on from that to a S1 Elise, then onto a Cayman and now the current M2. Non of these have the same friendship group around them as the Westfield community and single make clubs feel like a bit short term when talking about cars that I'll only keep for a few years. I feel like something is missing...

I am not sure I have a hobby anymore, I build Lego and go fishing every now and then, but I really want something with a connection to people.

I bought an air rifle and tried a few places, very strange people. I bought a shed of a Fiesta ST and did some track days. I bought a cheap set of golf clubs. I bought a kart that I am slowly trying to restore, but somehow I can't find the motivation for it and now I am looking at road bikes...

I wonder if what I really need to do is strip back and start again, but with what I do not know.

Sailing - I used to race fairly seriously in my teens and then discovered booze/women and stopped in my 20's. Got back into it following lockdown #1 and now have a Phantom singlehander which is a bit of an exciting animal when the wind picks up and throws me into the drink occasionally when I'm least expecting.

Rallying - I'm daft enough to co-drive for people. I probably don't do as much as I'd like to but it's ruddy expensive. Anyone need a co-driver?

Music - I love listening to live music and try to go a fairly eclectic mix of gigs and festivals.

Pub quiz - I go to the pub quiz once a week with some friends, it's a laugh and we're quite good at it.

Cycling - I don't do nearly enough of it. frown

Reading this thread made me realise that I don’t have any. How does anyone who is not retired find the time? I am busy with work all week and weekends are spent catching up with all the household chores for the week ahead.
It's difficult with full time work, family and other stuff but you have to make time and priorities. To my mind if you spend from the age of 16 to 67 just working it's a bit of a waste of an existence. Then you retire and spend all morning watching homes under the hammer, purgatory. I can't imagine life without hobbies and passions.
That currently what I feel like.

Mostly, standing in the garage, looking at stuff. Quite like doing that.

My second passion is sitting at the side of a swimming pool watching endless training for the kids. I LOVE doing that 5 days a week. Good job really, as someone else might find it endlessly tedious.

Model railways. I did it many years ago but back into it during lockdown. It's changed a lot in the last few years. Ready to run models are incredibly detailed now and digital control means that the number of functions that can be used is very wide. I'm particularly into the electronic side of things - as well as being a member of a club I am a member of an electronics group. They provide kits for making up a huge range of electronic modules and I derive enormous pleasure from sitting with a soldering iron putting something together.

My club has just moved into new premises and there will be room for me to build my own layout there. It's going to me to the same scale as the most common in the UK - 4mm/foot - but I will be working to a different track gauge to the normal OO gauge of 16.5mm. EM gauge is 18.2mm and looks more realistic.

Cycling & Gym usually five times a week.
Gardening, lots of exotic plants in my garden & it constantly needs something doing, enjoy doing it.
House stuff although I hate decorating/jobs and the money required I enjoy the results. Slowly renovating back to a classic 1930’s style throughout.
I enjoy keeping the car clean, amateur detailing type thing
Dogs, we’ve three dogs that require a decent amount of attention
Hot tub, most nights after the gym!

On top of work keeps me busy enough.

I'm in my 15th year of taking (at least) a photo a day and posting online. Really good discipline to get up and out early, when the best light is.

I've got better at the craft over the years, and make some books & cards to sell.

Helps if you live somewhere pretty, but I know of several who do the same in large cities.

It a nice way to spend time and then share with people.

I have different hobbies for different seasons and time gaps. Depending on the season and the time gap will depend on which one I do lol. However to summerise

3D Printing
Collecting (mostly classic) games consoles
Lego
Motorsport - Organising, participating and watching
Cars in general
Tech - From ESP32 boards to proper computers
Christmas Light shows (syncing to music not just some fairy lights on a timer), this is a new one and massively out of season but last year it was so much fun setting up and running the light shows I am really excited to do this years display.
Collecting various bits of naff geek paraphernalia along with the odd comiccon type event (off to Basingstoke next weekend where I am planning on completing my Stargate cast autograph list minus one or two)

I really should travel up to where you are and apply my other hobby I have yet to mention, Astrophotography, currently building my observatory (I still need to do that build thread I promised) but I have a couple of travel rigs. I am jealous of people who can do photography with actual light hehe

It's as dark as a dark thing here. Two probs (and I'm sure you know) - it's more often cloudy than not, and it doesn't get proper dark for 3 months of the year.

High pressure from the north in Jan, and you'll be sorted.

Also two problems I have where I live, what we term Astro Dark stops in mid May here and doesn't return until August. For you its a bit more extreme can't remember exactly where you are so I used Gairloch as an example as that's where my dad used to live, similar elevation https://clearoutside.com/annual_darkness/57.73/-5.... Astro Dark has just disappeared for you and wont return to mid/late August smile

In descending order of geekery and obscurity

Travel (though mostly through work tbh)
Weight lifting/general fitness
Involvement with the village/local community
Forestry/land management
Clay shooting, game shooting, pest control
Reading & history
Flying light aircraft
Simulated flying of military aircraft (DCS)
Mission and scenario building for the above simulation
Building the odd model aircraft
High fidelity tactical simulation (C:MO)
Solitaire wargaming (mostly contemporary Cold War stuff)

Plus dogs, cats, children and the associated caretaking tasks.

Mountain bikes. Moved to an eBike last summer having sold a hobby / project car and it's been the best decision I've made lately. The thing genuinely scares me at times as it's capabilities far exceed mine, but I'm getting there. It also gives me that slightly scared / adrenaline rush back that I've missed since the long forgotten days of going silly stuff in cars.

Forgot to add theatre and festivals to my list. Do they count as a hobby? I guess things you enjoy doing are a hobby....

We enjoy going to the IOW & Latitude festivals, plus many other gigs through the year....& this year I bought MrsMikeIOW an annual membership of the local theatre, & we've booked or seen quite a few shows already.....
