I reckon all forms of martial arts - cage fighting, ultimate fighting, all "choreographed" wrestling, all these things seem to attract "council" in droves. They need to look "hard" to go with their "hard" cars - all blacked-out windows and dustbin exhausts.

Painting your house number on the wall next to your front door in white gloss.
Or for that matter painting your house number in white gloss on your bins.

I think it's an American thing that's slowly creeping over here.. When I went to the states, the applause on internal flights there could have rivalled Phantom of the Opera in the Sydney Opera House.
While we're on the subject of live theatre, standing ovations, even for mediocre productions, seem to be de rigeur in London theatres now. It's bloody irritating.
Using foreign phrases which the user unfortunately cannot spell correctly - pure council.

Sorry!

any washing hanging on a balcony. instantly brings the area down. Especially when its draped over the metal railings rather than an actual clothes 'horse'

also, standing just outside your front door, in a dressing gown, smoking. Urgh....

two delightful examples from one lady spotted today and reminded me of this thread.

Has anyone mentioned the 'i'm not being funny but....' council opener ?

I think the airline council clapping is US based (as is less so here, cinema clapping - watched Jurassic park in mountain view when first released, say 94, and the a8dience cheered/clapped at end with trex).

I have (used to fly in the states a lot 20 years ago) had a lot of landing clapping but there are some crappy landings across the US. Storms into lax, win sheer into Burbank, just rough into Dallas, roller coaster into sfo, turbulence drop at Austin. So fair enough. I've had a few white knuckle rides.

Funnily tho worst was into Bergen and Moscow and no clapping. That was serious just a huge sigh of relief.

The airline clapping is definately American. I remember just cringing in my seat when it happened on an Internal flight to Buffalo in 2008. The way they were clapping you would've thought they'd landed the plane without any wheels!

I'd have clapped if I'd been on 1459 when Sullenberger landed it on the Hudson.

Otherwise... council.

People that "turn around" to say. Instant sign of a thick, council mong. (No offence to actual mongs.)
