The PH Cigar Thread
Discussion
Picked up a few cigars for one of my directors on a recent New York trip, the concierge at my hotel recommended "a really good humidor" to try and they (Cigarillo, 51W 14th) came up trumps by all accounts ...
I’ve picked up the following:
- Olivia Serie V Melanie Churchill - box ($19.99 each)
- Padron Family Reserve 45 - box ($37.99 each)
Then some singles:
- H.Upmann AJ Fernandez Toro 54x6 ($15.99)
- Kentucky Fire Cured ($10.99)
- Olivia Connecticut Reserve ($13.99)
- Zino Platinum Crown Series Barrel ($48.99)
Then asked for a discount due to the spend and he wiped 10% off the bill - total was $666.08 / £490

It's been a long time since there have been any posts here. I'm just quoting an old post of mine because I was wondering if we are all aware of what is happening with Habanos prices, Cohiba in particular? Basically, things have gone mad. Fancy a box? If you can find them, that will be:It really is very disappointing. Well, non-Cuban for me from now on, certainly non-Cohiba, anyway.
Bloody hell! IS NOTHING SACRED ANY MORE?!
I haven't bought any myself for a while in the UK so haven't clocked the price increase.
I did buy some in Palma centre last year (didn't think costs were off), but coming back through the airport very recently they had no cigars *at all* in duty free - apart from cigarillo type things - which seemed really unusual. Supply issues?
The missus picked me up a box of SD4s, Short Churchills and a few other singles for my birthday recently from JJ Fox in Selfridges, so the prices of those couldn't be crazy... although I'm off to check.... tbh, Cohiba can swivel at those prices assuming the alternatives aren't the same.
It's a cigar thread so have some gratuitous pics of a variety I've enjoyed over the last few weeks - I didn't write any tasting notes but I enjoyed them all, . I didn't realise with the Cohiba I could have been burning so much money, I've had a box for years .

Some good-looking cigars there. I haven't bought any myself for a while in the UK so haven't clocked the price increase.

Business is business, and they charge what they like, but I'm sad they are becoming outside of what I want to spend on them.
I had a Behike in a cigar lounge in London (back in 2016 for a birthday) and that was expensive at over £100, but an infrequent occasion.
A vast number of people would choke on me/us spending £30 quid on a cigar, but I guess the damn world is becoming even more elitist .

I've been able to indulge in the cigar thing mostly because I have been in places where they are far cheaper than in the UK, but that is basically over now, with Cohiba, at least, which appears to be at least tripling in price worldwide.
You're going to wince at some of the prices I have paid, in my travels, for example:
25 Cohiba Siglo IV - $288
25 Montecristo number 2 - £250.
And, best of all...I was on very good terms with the manager of the Casa Del Habanos store in Georgetown, Grand Cayman. He had a 10 box of Cohiba Behike 56 with some minor foot damage to a couple of the cigars. He let me have them for $200. The price now:
Good prices for sure Paul!
While I have bought a fair few in the UK, I rapidly started filling my humidor with cigars bought in duty free/abroad so was paying half UK cost c. £300ish for 25 SD4s for example. Funny the article talks about Trinidad - bought a nice box of Topes in duty free for a fraction of the current cost too...
Oh well, cigar market is following all other 'luxury' goods markets. Odd that it's happening now when other markets are wavering though.

I might have to post in the "things you've had to cut back on thread".
You really should, it might cause a bit of upset though!
I'm heading out for a few hours now but I'll do it later if you've chickened out.
Jesus wept at those price increases. I bought three Cohiba esplendidos in 2005 from a website in Spain for £51 (€75). That's about £76 now. I've seen them online now from £170 - £372, although they are all out of stock.
I haven’t had a cigar for several years so I am tempted to sell what I have left. I might be able to buy a Rolex at somd of the pricex I am seeing for cigars, although I might have to wait a bit.

I was reading that Cohiba and Trinidad have decided to peg their prices to Hong Kong and they are pretty much the highest in the world… that’s a shame as people will start to go elsewhere. I recently had an Arturo Fuente Don Carlos robusto. Very nice and solid burn and I know they are seen as very consistent cigars but to me, it lacked the depth of some of the Cuban sticks I have smoked.
I was thinking of trying some Padron. Anyone here recommend them?
