I've tried sharpening it, with no success. Is it because the knife is rubbish or is it user error? paperbag
I used to have one of those. It's not you. The material the blade is made from is terrible!
Trying to get a decent edge on stainless steel is almost impossible, even the blade on my Victorinox Swiss Army knife is difficult to work with.

I've managed to get something just about usable on my Kershaw lock knife by dressing the edge to the geometry I need with some fine wet & dry then using of all things the shank from a solid carbide slot drill to polish the edge to a mirror finish.

The best steel I have ever come across was on a Ken Hom cleaver, it took an edge from a fine stone almost instantly and held it for years.

Also has anybody got anything by Chris Reeve that they want to sell? An Aviator or similar for preference.

Single bevel fixed

Yes, they all live in an old type setters chest.

Fixed blades, all these are hand made, some of them are hand finished by me. Yes that is a stone age axe head.

And one I made up for filleting trout.

Oh, and that is no where near them all, neither is this!

I did say this was my kind of thread! smile
Some nice pieces there.
That'll be another hour or three wasted on spyderco.com and boker.de. readboxedinscratchchin

The wood isnt dyed, its black african iron wood. supposedly the densest wood you can get. i tried a file at it and barely made a mark in it.

bands are 925 silver.

and the ivory is from a mammoth tusk that was pulled from the north sea

That is just stunning. Absolutely beautiful - seeing things like that makes me realise just how talentless I am.

Bit of a thread bump but here we go. I used to have a small knife on my keyring which came in handy more times than you'd think, but I somehow lost it. After reading this thread off I went to Heinnie Haynes and these two little beauties are the result!

onesickpuppy, slightly OT perhaps wink

But what the feck do you do with your Audi key in the summer? It really gets on my wick, far too big to leave in your pocket, can't leave it in the car, don't have a jacket in the summer, what do you do with it?

This is not a 'look at me I drive an Audi so I'm a knob' post, it genuinely annoys me tongue out

To be honest I've never really thought about it as it doesn't really bother me. Most modern electronic keys are about the same size aren't they? But I live in Scotland so we don't really get a summer anyway...

Three veg? Maybe the knife would be handy.

Just 'accidentally' ordered one of these. No excuse really as I have a perfectly serviceable Gerber - just couldn't resist some Finnish 'prawn'.

The answer to that question could cost you a fortune!

try Brisa.fi for starters, moonraker knives have a fair range also.

Trying to resist a 2064 Enzo Trapper 95 with Amboyna burl ... gorgeous, can't really justify a fixed blade but will probably pull the trigger sooner or later.

Mine is a Boker Plus Trance 42. It's the best sensibly priced UK legal knife I have found when I was looking a few years ago. Rock solid and it keeps an edge for ages.

That's NOT UK legal - it locks so it's illegal.
