As a Police officer I'm used to working Christmas and New Year. I think in the last 20 years or so I've worked more than I've been off (same for weekends/Easter etc really). I worked Christmas Day 8-4, Sat and Sun off, back in on Monday all this week and 8-4 tomorrow, then off Fri, Sat and Sun.
Christmas Day was quiet (for us, response cops were busier but not crazy). This week has been busier, did 13 1/2 hours yesterday and back in to the same job today. We tend to find its either crazy, non stop with extended shifts or deathly quiet, never usually a happy medium.
On the plus side, 28th was an "extra" public holiday as Boxing Day was a Saturday. And we get double pay for public holidays, so when it's quiet, it's easy money. When it's not, we do earn it. Plenty of colleagues spent most of the last week knee deep in flood water.
Fair play to you. I'm also working this week, but I work in software development so don't generally have to deal with flood water or mentalists.Christmas Day was quiet (for us, response cops were busier but not crazy). Some people just don't understand the concept of christmas in that some people may take some time to spend it with their families.
"I need an answer now"
well you can't have it
It's a total pain in the arse when you're offshore and need an answer from a structural engineer before you can re-start the rig though. They're on call but proving quite hard to get hold of."I need an answer now"
well you can't have it
Still, could be worse. There was a Norweigan worker killed in last nights storms off Norway and there is a barge that's come loose causing rigs quite near our location to be evacuated.
