Hi
I am catching up with family at Christmas and my uncle loves cigars. I am looking for some recommendations - if anyone can share?
I’ve smoked a few Cohiba - I’d like something pretty special , so any help would be appreciated.
Cohibas are superb but are now hideously expensive.I am catching up with family at Christmas and my uncle loves cigars. I am looking for some recommendations - if anyone can share?

What's your budget and what are you after in terms of smoking time/strength?

I'm only a very occasional cigar smoker; 2 maybe 4 a year at most although 20 years ago I was getting through at least one a month. Over the years I had bought some Sumatran Villiger cigars that are individually foil wrapped as well as slowly depleting a box of Dominican Republic Siglo 21 8" 50 gauge that I keep as best I can in my slightly scratched secondhand (£35 iirc) Dunhill Humidor.
I dip in and out of this thread as a watcher and lurker but I have been quite surprised at just how expensive cigars have got so I was even more surprised to find at the back of the garage, stuffed inside a wine crate (with some late 1990's Shiraz) a box of same Dominican Republic Siglo 21 7" 48 gauge - an unopened box of 25.
Feeling nervous about opening them but confident I had the space in the humidor and the moisture devices all charged up I have opened them up expecting to find them as dust and crumbs but pleasantly surprised to find them intact and solid. I've popped them into said Humidor and plan to try them with a glass of port and an open fire this weekend.
Out of sheer curiosity (and I mean it as I won't sell them, just check my garage to see how crap I am at selling any damn thing) would anyone have a clue at how much a box of 25 7x48 Siglo's would cost me these days? I think it was over a £100 over 20 years ago - I could be way out with that though - my knees have gone, the tickers dodgy so who knows if the grey matter is any better
Edit - a quick google tells me they are worth exactly what I paid for them 20 years ago I'll just be happy if they taste ok after all this time - I always preferred a much lighter cigar than many of the Cuban's hence the Sumatran and Dom Republic choices.
Edit 2 - it is this brand... https://www.cigarmonthclub.com/siglo-21

Could you post a photo of the box? Hard to ascertain what they are from your description. Unlikely to be worth much as they are Dominican. If it was Cuban Cohiba Siglos it would be a different story...I dip in and out of this thread as a watcher and lurker but I have been quite surprised at just how expensive cigars have got so I was even more surprised to find at the back of the garage, stuffed inside a wine crate (with some late 1990's Shiraz) a box of same Dominican Republic Siglo 21 7" 48 gauge - an unopened box of 25.

Drew Estate Liga Privada No.9 Belicoso
Length: 6"
Gauge: 52
While I still prefer Cubans myself, I think I can safely recommend the cigar as worth a try to those who have a preference for the'new world' cigar brands.
Quite full bodied as described, without being at all overpowering. Lasted well over an hour of less than furious smoking.
I'm not a big rum drinker, but the Flor De Cana was very pleasant, especially the 12 yo, in my opinion.
Reading with interest, as I do like the occasional cigar (probably 3 in 20 years 😂).
Question.. I’ve found a sealed box of King Edwards at my late dads. I reckon they’re probably 20-30 years old. I presume they’ll be no good now? Not quite sure what to do.. try one, and toast the old man, or sell the, as they are, sealed. I’m sure someone would like them for their man-cave!
Thanks in anticipation..

My advice would be to open them and get them in a humidor or a snap seal tuppaware box with a bovida humidity pouch and leave them for a few months and see what happens. They will be dry as a bone if you try one now Question.. I’ve found a sealed box of King Edwards at my late dads. I reckon they’re probably 20-30 years old. I presume they’ll be no good now?
