Your big hope in Kent will be imported MCS storms from the continent. You know, the big ones that are about 50 miles across ;o)

Pretty intense storm last night (Falkirk, central Scotland), lots of roads blocked this morning, couple of hotel car parks flooded up to the roofs of the cars, worst of all my mates house was hit by lightning and burned down. Thankfully all occupants ok.

I concur. If I was sat by a pool with a nice cold *insert local beer here* it would be fine, but sitting doing boring work inside is just not nice.

Oh well, we'll moan when it's cold and the days are short.

It was still 31 degC here at about 8pm last night. It was horrific. The day actually started nicely, it was cool and overcast. But then someone decided for a hard and fast bake and it shot up to 30+ Early in the noon.

I am so glad I spent money on AC this year. With a newborn as well, it’s been a godsend because they do not like the heat and they will let you know about it! All the time.

Lovely sheet lightning show last night as well. Seemed to be well off in the distance as thunder was conspicuous by its absence. But a good 30mins with the bedroom curtains open lying in bed in 20degC room. Bliss.

It was still 24 at midnight - I'd be happy with a 24 degree high!

Loitering around 36c here in Colorado. Next Monday is due to be 32c, but that's the lowest forecast for a while.

Of course it's only 21c here in the basement, with the AC vents blocked (it gets too cold otherwise).

The main differences to the UK are whole house AC, and a much greater time to get used to it - we've had months of it being 32c or higher, with another month to go - more time to acclimatize. The nest thermostat has been slowly increasing the temperature in the house (reducing the time the AC is on), for ecomony, and it's currently set to a temperature that would have been lethal in May (25c).

The lower humidity makes it less unpleasant, too.

I hated summer when I was in the UK.

Cumulus and Cumulonimbus now bubbling up just North of Gatwick. Feels hotter than the preceding days. Praying it's gonna kick off, the garden is utterly parched.

Ideally I'd like 25 from 7am-9pm, dropping to 15 overnight, with light rain between midnight and 5am.

Yep - we're not far from 'lift off'

As per this tweet https://twitter.com/danholley_/status/129353793562... levels of energy in the atmosphere are extremely high. Unlike yesterday, it's not if, but when.

In Surrey, I'd temper my expectations - I think the form horse is Bristol to Cambridge for the big stuff.

Having said that, first cells are bubbling up at Horsham and Epsom.
