Do you and her still share a hairstyle?
That would have been a perfect response if she interrupted your flow BruceV8 said:

Seeing live comedy piqued my interest in stand up and I had a go at some writing. Does anyone know of a forum for review / feedback on material or is it best to go and do a few minutes at an open mic somewhere?

Couple of forums - chortle (main stand up one) and comedy.co.uk (used to be sitcom guide) - the second has a "review my work" section in the forum...more for sketch and sitcom stuff but they'll look at anything.Seeing live comedy piqued my interest in stand up and I had a go at some writing. That said.....stick some up here. You have two moderately successfull open mic acts in this thread already.....you could spend a long time in any "comedy" forum and not see that! I'll happily give my feedback.

I'm on at the Bath comedy festival on Friday and also did a gig at the Leiceser comedy festival. Its not quite Edinburgh yet, but give me time .... I've done 45 gigs now and I'm now mainly doing middle spots on pro bills and rarely do all open mic shows now, unless I'm trying out new material. I recently entered the Amused Moose Laugh Off, which is a national comedy competition.I got through to the quarter finals but got no further, sadly. But the organisers said that only 12% of the 700 or so acts that entered got that far so I'm not too disappointed. All in all not too shabby for an act thats only been going 4 months.
Although on pro bills, most of my gigs are still open spots, though - ie unpaid. I've had a few paid gigs but I'd like more so that the comedy becomes at least cost neutral. Gigging for free for years is OK if you're a skinny jean wearing 21 year old who lives wth his mum and only has his penis to look after. But my mortgage lender doesn't care about how funny I am.
So I'm already off the bottom rung but making the step from the second bottom to the next one (regular paid gigs) is a difficult thing and quite an ambitious target for someone with my meagre level of experience. But thats what I'm aiming for now.
PS A while ago I mentioned doing a gig at Downstairs at The Kings Head. I did this two weeks ago and got offered a 15 minute spot on their Sunday night pro bill.
I read this topic a while back and I went to an open mic night here in Frankfurt. As you may imagine, open mic nights in English are rare (to say the least) here but even though the level is very much amateur based, it’s still good fun.
And it looks like I will give it a go in a few weeks’ time. I’ve always been a class clown. I’m usually quite good on stage. I’ve have thoughts and observations which seem to entertain my friends. So I thought : why not.
Started working on material already. But luckily, as an ex-pat in Germany, there’s rather a lot of that, so inspiration aplenty...

I'd love to find out how Bruce got on, I went to a couple (I think) of his shows, and had many a pint at other PH events.
Whenever we stood chatting though, he never could look me in the eye...
Are your eyes or his like Romesh Ranganathan's? Whenever we stood chatting though, he never could look me in the eye...
I've been to a few small stand-up shows in Luxembourg. The chap that runs the "courses" is a Canadian guy who, sadly, thinks he's hilarious, but he's actually quite tedious and repetitive. Many of the people he claims to have "trained" are better than him!
