Merry Christmas just been burgled.
Discussion
Good to see someone has been arrested for it. Hopefully it all sticks and a sentence that doesn't leave you more angry is given.
My parents were burgled over New Year when I was 11 in 1993. They used a crowbar to lever the patio door out of its frame. They only took the VCR but there wasn't much to take back in those days (our Nintendo was taken away with us!) and were pretty tidy while hunting for what I presume was cash.

They were pretty tidy in our place, they looked through every cupboard and drawer but as the police said "they've done pretty well out if you two!"My parents were burgled over New Year when I was 11 in 1993. Gadgets are relatively high value I suppose.
Sorry you got burgled. Would you please mention how they got in through the doors so we can protect againt it? Did they smash the entire window; do the lock snapping thing (eurolocks); or break the handles somehow; or just lever them open with the crowbar?
(for all the people who will presently complain about me asking this - don't worry scrotes alreacy know how to get in).

They forced the French doors with a crowbar, broke the bottom lock and then pulled them open. We've since had extra locks fitted inside so they can't pull them open from the outside.(for all the people who will presently complain about me asking this - don't worry scrotes alreacy know how to get in).
No glass broken.
A simple bit of security that's quite effective for French doors is a bike lock. The type that is plastic coated.
Simply loop around the door handles tight-ish and the doors cannot be forced open.
French doors are not going make your house more likely to be burgled. Insurance companies do not ask if you have them - they simply lay down the standards they must stick to.
A determined house breaker will get in somehow. The best deterrents are decent locks and a visible alarm system.

I stuck a couple of Y-Cam Home monitor cameras around the house. Sends a video to a remote server and alerts you of some movement - real piece of mind, even got triggered by a moth whilst I was away. HD so pretty good picture, even at night. You can log on from your mobile too for live viewing. And an ADT monitored alarm that's been faultless for three years now.
I know how you're feeling OP. Its a sickening feeling, my first thoughts were of extreme rage and violence against the burglars. Then comes the guilt, 'I made it too easy' and disgust. The feelings of violation, not wanting to stay in the house.
It takes a long time to get over it and I dont't honestly believe you do, just acceptance. I wad burgled 13 years ago and I still wish I could visit his early grave, pass a whole bottle of cheap Gin through my kidneys and take a st on his headstone.....i am bitter lol.

Went to collect some of the stuff they recovered today and the police know who it is that burgled us and they said the net is very carefully closing in on them, they said that it almost certainly was opportunistic and we weren't targeted which makes me feel a little bit better.
Hoping for a decent result in the new year!
ETA it's not the multi gym people.
