Anyone have any suggestions for a decent shoe in the £100ish or less range that will suit both smart casual (wool trousers / chinos) and more casual (dark jeans)? Thinking a chunky derby?
I would recommend that instead of buying something that's in the sub £100 range at full price you hold out for something from Loake/Barker/Herring/AFPOS/Berwick that's on sale. The step up in quality is worth a bit of a wait/hunt.

I mean I can easily spend more cash so perhaps that is sensible. What websites should I keep an eye on? Herring tends towards the more formal I find. I think im looking for a chunkier more casual derby.

Maybe these?

I'm looking for a pair of zipped boots in brown. Preferably pointier (or chisel toed) than most on here, no, or minimal broguing and with a bit of 'style'. By which I mean toward the Jeffery West end rather than the Jacob Rees Mogg end.

JW don't have anything I fancy. Jo Ghost close but no cigar. Any others I should be looking for?
Something like this?

Would have been better timed a few months back as it seems a few brands stop doing boots in spring/summer.

Quite a popular style. I was somewhere last week and quite a lot of the gents were wearing similar.

Visiting Grandma at the home again next week so I’ll ask around where they got theirs.

Seriously I expect you’ll be very happy with quality, suggest you size down a half size and use code SF10 for 10% off. They’ll come with Saphir polish and shoe trees which will save you a few quid too if you would otherwise buy those.

Thanks, I do quite like them tbh. Maybe a bit plain but nice.

At risk of getting too technical, it's an image in slices

Well I’ve just been on their configurator and all the options are there to make exactly those shoes

They're going back, gonna get something more versatile. Derbys maybe.
Penny loafers are tricky to 'get right'. If 'done wrong' can look very old manish but when worn well can look very trendy. As cbmotorsport states, the trouser cut is important.

I'd go for a nice pair of suede chukka boots. I have a few pairs and find them extremely versetile. They can easily be dressed up or down.

Loake Kempton would be my recommendation.

Personally I'm not a fan. I just don't really like a chunky derby style.

...or you could read that for what it is, a configurator to choose your own design.
Just because you could spec those in the image doesn't mean you should!

They aren't - You can see the image is at least 2 pairs of shoes they have interspersed. You can tell particularly by the laces. You can certainly spec something interesting, but the toe cap has to be one solid colour for example. I don't see how they could possibly do anything else.

First entry into this weird world of nice shoes. Bought myself a pair of Barker's a few years ago, and just last month threw out a crappy old pair of brogues and updated them with some Cheaneys. Comfiest shoes I own now.

I don't mean to appear rude, but I think I am going to. They are some of the most horrible shoes I have seen for a long time - and I visit this thread often!

They look like something the apprentice didn't finish before he was sacked.

If you look at one of the other photos (above), they haven't been finished properly and what is that on the heel? It looks like someone peed on them before photographing them. All of this in addition to the design being hilarious and only congruous in a clown's outfitters.
