Having watched torrential rain (several hours worth) turn to heavy snow which promptly soaked up the puddles and turned into a few inches of laying snow (within 30 minutes of schmalex's prediction for it arriving) I don't buy into the 'it's too wet to stick,' argument. Ground too warm, the snow itself too wet maybe...I'm sure there's some science in there somewhere.

Looks like March could be the snowiest month of the 'winter'.

Nothing to get too excited about yet though.

March is almost always our snowiest month of the year.

Nothing forecast for the first week so far, though.

It needs to fall more heavily to be able to overcome the wet/ warm ground from my experience of watching snow fall, biggrin If it's just a little falling at once it will continue to melt before it builds a thick enough layer.

I was in Cumbria/Northumberland a couple of weeks ago, saw reasonable snow a few days. (After leaving 2 weeks of constant 40 degrees plus here)
If I can figure out how to post pics on here I'll load a couple later

I've just taken my winter wheels and snow tyres of my Octavia Scout, so chances are Surrey is headed for a blizzard.

The problem is by posting it you then invert things so that it means it won't snow, wink

We have the best weather charts lining up for snow. The problem is it's too warm now for anything special frown

It may well snow for lots of us, certainly in the South it won't last long if it falls.

BBC struggling with the maths of tonight_

Snow could fall to an inch (5cm) in most places covered by the warning, and to 3in (10cm) on higher ground.

Not sure if it was the warmest Winter 'evah' or not now, BBC jumped the gun before, but now seems to have started saying 'one of', may have just missed by a fraction - probably depends which data you use/believe.

It was all down to the exceptionally warm Dec (CET 1.6C warmer than 1974) anyway, although mild, neither Jan (CET 2.1C colder than 1916) or Feb (CET 3C colder than 1779) were anywhere near beating the stated record years and there have been many dozens of warmer Jan/Febs.

Anyone seen any snow this morning? We were forecast for 2 hours of heavy snow between 7 and 9. It's been fairly bright and clear all morning here in Warrington. frown
