That’s a good question.

I was fancying buying one myself, but there are so many that I didn’t know where to start.

I sniffed a couple before lockdown in Selfridges, but there were too many to sample properly as I was in a bit of a rush to meet the wife. Then lockdown happened.

I would welcome any Acqua di Parma recommendations for one that smells more of a fresh tropical smell. That sort of thing.
They smell nice but I’d avoid, they’re expensive and there is no longevity whatsoever.

If you’re not bothered about longevity or silage, Ambra is the nicest smelling one in my opinion.
Thanks for that.

I do value longevity and silage. I know it’s incredibly boring to bang on about Creed, but stuff like Creed and Penhaligons is great because of the longevity. Couple of sprays at 8am and by 9/10pm it’s still quite prominent, which is what you want.

Not really a fan of fragrances that fade to nothing by lunchtime.

Currently really enjoying Mont Blanc, Explorer. Gets a lot of complements, and seems to last well too. I have Creed Aventus, which it’s relatively similar to but for me Explorer shades it (and it much cheaper).

I can also recommend Tom Ford Noir Extreme.

Another old time favourite is Hugo Boss (green bottle). Really fresh and satisfying fragrance.
I've just given Explorer a shot, hope it's as good as promised.
What do you think of it?

My bottle of L'Occitane Cade is almost finished, just went on the website to order another...they no longer make it.

I am distraught.

I would think the European sites would incur 20% VAT on top of their prices.

I use All Beauty, based in Guernsey.

Fair bit cheaper here but not sure if they're trustworthy...

It's tricky because they have quite a big range of men's frangrances don't they. I picked up one of the 5 bottle sample boxes on sale at Selfridges a while back, and may favourite is probably Colonia Intensa, which I went on to buy a full-size bottle of. Colonia Club is also a favourite.

Anyone ever used The Essence Vault for a copycat fragrance? I'm after some Tom Ford Oud Wood but can't stomach £150 right now. £15 would be just fine to tide me ovee if it's as, or nearly as good.

Anyone any experience of this or any other fragrance from them?

Got a couple of free Tom Ford samples sent to me recently as they are on the pricier side to risk buying and not liking, and getting out to try stuff at the moment isn't very easy..

Costa Azzura I wasn't overly impressed with, but Black Orchid is really nice, I'm a big fan. I think I'll see out the sample and consider purchasing if I still like it.

Years ago having read about Creed Aventus I went to a department store in Australia and they gave me a couple of ml spray bottle sample. It smelled incredible and I would often take the lid off just to smell it.

A couple of years later I bought a bottle from a department store in the UK. Although it smelt good, to me it didn't smell as good as the sample I had got a couple of years previously. If I wore it, to me it was barely noticeable and unless they were standing right next to me I don't think other people could smell it.

I haven't worn it for over a year, but it now seems to be even weaker than it was before. Really annoying as I have about three quarters of a 120 ml bottle left.

After shave has just never seemed to smell strong on me, how come with some people you can still smell it after they have left the room or even if you are walking 20 feet behind them?

I've had some samplers of there tom ford tobaco vanille and spice bomb , not the same as the original but very similar .

I think of all the clones there the most consistent .

This isn't meant to sound arsey but why wouldn't you just buy the normal Spice Bomb? It's not expensive.

I have a bottle of both of those. I‘m very confused by a lot of the Tom Ford positioning though. I was sold the Black Orchid at an airport in Thailand and they knew it was for me, but I‘ve definitely seen it marketed for women though. I tell myself it must be unisex, but I have found myself wearing it less.

A lot of Tom Ford ones indeed are unisex, same with Jo Malone

Because i wanted to see how close the clone was , i didn't say i didn't own the original.

It's crazy creed are ramping up there prices yet the quality of them compared to the clones is getting closer , in some cases the clones are now better as they keep reformulating the original.

A lot of TF are unisex. I liked Black Orchid when I sampled it but once on me it was too floral. I've tried quite a few unisex ones over the years (see my earlier posts in this thread) but they've never really worked on me. I tend to stick to /woody/citrus-y and leathery ones (including TF) now though.

I would agree that Creed has become weaker and also less 'pineapple' smelling. The same as you, I first smelled it in a department store, next to my office in around 2010 if I had to guess, and I remember having a couple of sprays from it from and by the end of the next week, you could still smell it on my coat. It was still quite distinctive.

Now it certainly still smells on clothing the next day, but not to anywhere near the same extent, and it doesn't last on skin as strongly all day as it first did.

Bit disappointing that they have 'watered it down' in some way, but it's still one of the better lasting in my opinion. Creed fragrances still seem far more potent than other brands.

It would be interesting if you tried the essence vault aventus and it's actually the old style aventus you remember .
