If we get an easterly (it's not nailed on yet), SE tends to get the coldest weather...

Should I be dragging the sledge out for a bit of runner de-rusting? Prior to an assault on the all-comers Sussex downhill sledge times?

Or will I be disappoint?

Again.

This is what we're hoping for. As you can see, to our NE, there is high pressure. Winds rotate anti-clockwise around high pressure anti-cyclones. So the white isobar lines are bringing the winds from Ukraine. However one major fly in the ointment is that currently the temperatures in Poland and Ukraine are above zero.

Wind really starting to blow up down here. The K2 buoy off southwest Ireland is reporting wave heights of up to 10 metres. Our own weather forecast has upgrading the gusts to up to 80mph to coincide with a near 10 metre high tide tomorrow morning at around 7am. Should be fun.

At around midnight it got very lively very suddenly here in Maidstone, Kent.

Almost horizontal, and very heavy, rain.
Half an hour later it's nowhere near as bad but still a bit blowy.

A friend of mine in Canada posted that he couldn't go for a run as it was -31c.

The next day he'd posted a pic of his living room where the drain pipe for the bathroom above had frozen and burst....oh dear.

Current situation on the Cambs/Beds border. Edge of a farm/field at the back, lots of old Chestnuts. Windows rattling in their frames type thing has woken me. Saw my lad’s light on who’s also awake and has sent me back to bed with the sweetest of thoughts ‘Mum, it’s pretty strong wind, what if one of those huge trees comes down and hits the house’. I’ll sleep well now son. Thanks.

Just had to go out and retrieve my son’s 10ft trampoline/enclosure from the apple tree - where it was wedged on its side. Wheelie bins blowing down the street. It’s definitely a bit breezy here in Dorset smile

Woken up at 4am by torrential rain and the sound of next door's rubbish travelling up the road. Not looking forward to the M11 this morning.

Not much in London. Was a bit windier than normal last night and a few neighbours who had overfilled their plastic/cardboard bins have littered the street a bit.

Thankfully Council with their holiday delays have yet to collect general waste so pretty much every ones bin is full and heavy so streets are not lined with real trash.

Well we seem to have survived with nothing more than a candle holder blown from the garden coffee table. Neighbour’s wall a few doors down however...

There’s usually a black BMW 3 series parked in that spot on the path against the wall, of it’s there it’s going to need more than a jump start this morning.

Always trim your bush people.

Well it was a wild night down here, sustained wind speed of 60mph with gusts of 75 mph. Can’t leave my house at the moment as the roads are closed.

Woken up at 02.30 by sounds that I can only equate to being in a tumble drier! Looked out of the window and no visible damage - surprised at that.

Models continue to point towards a Scandinavian High, easterly winds arrive around Sunday and then a proper Scandi high forms later in the week (the high is much closer to UK before then).

The Scandi high, beast from the East, setup is the most troublesome to forecast and can disappear at close range. So apologies it it does happen, but we have broad alignment across the models.
