Correct me if i am wrong but there was 2 sudden stratoferic warmings earlier this year, i understand that may well be responsible for the heavy snow etc earlier this year, i have a question, was these ssw,s responsible for the summer we have had and also is if so, is it still affecting our weather now?

Yep! They totally broke the jet stream and allowed high pressure to form where it doesn't normally (over northern Europe). I hinted in March/April that summer could be special. I suspect this year's weather will be the subject of many scientific papers to come. Certainly feels like it's still effecting things.
Hottest ever summer in England, joint hottest for whole of UK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45399134?ns_source=t...
Cooler air now across most of UK thanks to a cold front from the north. The jet stream is now pointing directly at the UK, from the north - which isn't helpful.
So fairly cool compared to summer, but pleasant enough - specially for the South. High pressure should return next week.

Just wondering what the next few months have in store. Summer is well and truly over, and has been since the start of august, according to my pine cones. Autumn doesn't just happen, it's a gradual process, that being said, in the next week the leaves on conker trees will start turning.
Although autumns arrival is early, the pine cones suggest it will be warm, dry and very pleasant for the next 8 weeks.
The little milestones I use, I group in to 3's to plot the progress. During the summer, wasps eat protein, a lot of protein. A good sign of autumn is when the wasps start feeding on sweet things, and they've been feasting on blackberries for 3 weeks now.
The mild autumn will mean the wasps have a long time feasting on sweet stuff, and this is when they like to sting people. I hate wasps.
Anyway - next 7 days. Watch the conker trees.
The other signs so far have been

The other signs so far have been
- Blackberries finished
- Spiders moving indoors
- Scent of aldehydes in the air (fruit)
- Birds congregating prior to migration
- Noticeable change in the air
- Morning mists
- Wasps feasting on sugar, not protein
- Hawthorn trees
- Behavioural change in squirrels.

(Not paying attention deserves a boot in the balls as a wake-up call. Occasionally.)

Good post. I've noticed a few of them things, but not all.Although autumns arrival is early, the pine cones suggest it will be warm, dry and very pleasant for the next 8 weeks.

The blackberries are not finished where I am. We’ve been out picking them for a couple of weeks, still plenty yet to ripen.
It’s been glorious down on the south coast for the last couple of days although it was a tad chilly when I left work at 6:30 yesterday morning, about 12C I think.
I’m going away next week for a fortnight so expect to return to find autumn in full swing.

Looking likely that the weekend weather will be interfered with by a low pressure system to our north/north east. Hopefully this will drag some warm air up from the south though...
Looking out to the Atlantic, hurricane season is upon us, and it's starting up with quite a bang. Good chance of some 'weaker' storms rebounding in the Atlantic when they hit the jet stream. They could have some big, and unpredictable, influences on our weather.
