I wonder if the good citizens will welcome them into the community.
What? They'll only be accused of racism if they don't.

I was working a retail park in Hove the other day that had a handful of (what appeared to be) English travellers in.

What struck me is what a boring lifestyle it appears to be.

There was a gang of 6-10 middle-aged men just stood there drinking tea the whole time I was working there.

You daft fool they did that ages ago under the guise of cutbacks and reprioritising crime ie Facebook and 'wacist'.
The polices new function is to issue crime reference numbers unless they can get out of it somehow to help reduce figures.

Chief Constable Simon Bailey said:
There were a number of incidences of theft, of antisocial behaviour, of criminal damage, and we misjudged our message, and I’m sorry that we got that message wrong. We got it wrong. We’ll learn the lessons. It won’t happen again
In other words:

"next time, yes, we'll say it's travellers, but we won't do anything more about it. Probably less, actually, once we actually acknowledge it's them."
no no no - the magic phrase has been uttered! All will now be well... "...we'll learn the lessons..." praise be!!!

If we want to be totally honest though, they didn't 'downplay' at all - they flat out lied and denied it was happening

It would be interesting to see how differently this sort of thing would be handled if the local police chief was an elected official, as in the USA.

Overall, I don't think that's a good idea, but it would be interesting...

It was either earlier on this year or late last year a load of travellers set up home on the site of a long time empty restaurant just off the A3 northbound by the Painshill junction, they left a mess similar to the Olympic Park mess.

I don't get the thinking of that location for a services on the A3 at all, especially when I read last year that there is talk of widening the A3 in that area which would impact on that space.

That's true, but I'm not sure they feel 'close' enough to problems.

What I'm on about is Flyoverville USA where if the townsfolk aren't happy about something, they go and bang on Chief Brodie's door and interrupt his enjoyment of his fried alligator.

Would a town like that have problems like these?

Know one votes, knows or cares who their PC is or what they do. If the electorate made it an issue maybe it'd have an effect

Imagine an election campaign based on clearing up traveller problems.
