I ask my wife to check the probe too. But let’s be honest, that’s how we ended up in this situation anyway...

What are peoples thoughts on second hand baby furniture?

Bought a cot bed/Cupboard/drawers, matching, for 30% of original price, because it was second hand. New matteress, jobs a good 'un

Would you do that? my mum thinks it's tight buying second hand furniture, and baby could catch something from the cot!

I don't have a problem with it at all. Its a very sensible choice indeed, given how expensive having a baby can be! Yes to a new mattress of course but they are cheap in the grand scheme.

Give it all a clean when you get it with some Dettol or similar and no worries.

But of course, always accept family members who are willing to buy things for you to help out. My brother in law bought us the cot, mother in law the pushchair, my parents some other bedroom furniture etc. Think all we bought was the changing table-drawer unit

We bought all new and spent a fortune on our last baby, we then thought we wouldnt have any more and gave it all away.....or sold for very cheap

We then had an unexpected pregnancy and bought lots if not most of what we needed second hand!! Its been fine, we only buy clean stuff . Saved a fortune and much less time in mothercare, which suits me

Only caveat is with SH stuff is the safety issue, check it isn't odd no name imported stuff or bodged by the previous owner

My kids always get complimented on how well they are dressed, my misses kits them out in clothes off ebay, most of which are brand new but never worn and sold for peanuts. I wish I could dress half as well as my 8 month year old son, he looks propper dapper all the time!

Yes... safety stuff we are careful with (car seat) but we gratefully received a lot of hand me downs.

+1

Everything other than car seat and cot mattress can be second hand. Safety is the key. Anything aesthetic crack on. We saved so much money doing this.

Our friends had twin boys so both of my daughters wore a lot of generic boys clothes...

Indeed. My sister has 3 under 7. I don’t think we have bought literally any clothes so far and I’m not exaggerating. They’re going from us to a friend who is a year behind too.

Expecting our second in 5 weeks, have a 2yr old boy who is ace, sleeps very well.

Count yourself lucky this far. My 2 year old doesn’t sleep through yet.

My eldest daughter didn't until 3 and half.

The youngest (15 months) best night so far is 3 wakeups.

Still, it could be worse, a colleagues daughter did not sleep through until 9.

Mrs had a regular midwife appointment yesterday, mentioned bad itching at night, hands, arms, feet, legs etc.. They took blood samples.

Today she has had a call, they want her in tomorrow due to something to do with her liver.

Don't want to google it, but have done - Obviously.

Shes 37 weeks so I guess any issues they can always hurry him along.

We planned to buy all shiney and new stuffs for our first baby, but the decision was made for us when we were gifted a number of secondhand items (all in perfect condition) before we made any purchase!

Cot Bed: gifted to us by my wife's best friend which was used by her son ,and was previously gifted by her brother who used it for their son too! A quality piece of furniture (with 3 levels which is rare we found) which would cost a fortune to buy today. We simply bought a new mattress and sheets for our first baby.

Maclaren XT buggy: gift from the outlaws who used it for their other grandkids. It was literally in new condition! They kept it in anticipation we would have a need for it one day which was a nice touch.

Maxi Cosi cabriolet car seat: gift from my wife's friend. Since we knew the history of the seat (accident free) we were happy to use the seat. The outlaws bought us the isofix family base for Xmas to compliment the car seat.

Clothes + Toys: received loads of branded clothes and toys from our friends who were probably happy to clear out their house!!

As new parents, we the enjoy the baby buying experience, but as per above, we don't have any issues with second hand goods providing the history is known.

You are well in the "safe" zone - 37 weeks is full term for baby development.

First year is tough and you will be a third wheel for a lot of it.

After that it’s fantastic though. Once they are two it’s just play time alllllll the times

That's young but good to get it over and done with.

At least they sleep a lot at that age, but a few weeks short of calpol (though there is minimal evidence that a small dose, proportional to weight would harm as I understand it)

If they are very distracted by it, take a sock, fill it with oats, tie off the top and leave it in a warm bath for 30 mins - swirl it around. Then bathe baby until they get bored. It worked for ours, no idea why.

Otherwise calamine/PoxClin CoolMousse (but check with GP)

Confirmed ICP, liver not clearing toxins well enough pretty much.

Being induced on Saturday morning.

Crazy, scary and exiting knowing he will be here next week.

A friend had that - quite common. Don't worry smile
