Got to say this thread is incredibly refreshing, people actually want to help each other, reassure and provide useful advice without nitpicking and pedantry. Is this still PH?!

My Little girl is 8 weeks old and getting more fun every day that goes by. She has been smiling for 2 weeks now which is great and refreshing when coming home from work.
Although she is in the big bath with me every other night we have our first swimming experience on Sunday, using a well known company called WaterBabies. Basically 30 mins in a warm hydrotherapy pool to get baby used to swimming and going underwater.
I don't want to tempt fate but she is sleeping very well (touches wood), she sleeps from 10.30pm through until 6-7am, wakes for a quick 10 min feed then sleep again until 10am when the Mrs has to wake her up.

Son is nearly 7 months now and is fantastic but is suffering from a really bad cough and chest.

He usually sleeps brilliantly going from around 7 in the night until around 5 the following morning, occasionally waking needing a bottle at around 2am.

This cough has him waking up every few hours though. Felt knackered this week so really hoping it clears up soon.

As for the second hand stuff comments do it. Its a no brainer. All of our stuff for our daughter was brand new and very expensive. Obviously all of the big stuff we kept for our son but we bought him loads of nice second hand stuff. People sell big bundles of decent clothes for peanuts. They're not in the long and he's got lots of new decent stuff for going out anyway.

My wife's in the process of selling my daughters old clothes on ebay. Its all lovely stuff from Boden, Joules, The Little White Company etc. Most are selling within minutes as they're good as new and a fraction of the price.

I knew that existed on PH underneath all the faux-bravado and bickering, that there must be others in the same predicament and circumstances.

This weekends tasks for me include putting up a stair gate. Feel like I've been conned -turns out that "pressure fit" still means you have to drill the thing into the wall, it doesn't just hold itself in place.

Still I'm sure a quick black friday deal will find me a decent hammer drill

If you still have to drill into the wall, I would consider a non pressure fit gate, one that does not have one of those bars across the floor that you eternally trip over.
(If fitting it up against a step, ignore me!)

I have one at the top of the stairs and one at the bottom, makes carrying stuff such a . . . pleasure!

we have one of each and the pressure gate is a PITA as even when as tight as it can go it moves very slightly over time and keeps needing removing and refitting. Also bear in mind they don't prevent damaging your house as the tighter you make it the more it can press into the wood of the doorframe. Also I think the guideline is not to have pressure gates on stairs either, only doorways.

I have one of each type - acquired from another parent friend. Definitely need one at the bottom of the stairs as daughter just loves to climb them instead of playing with any of her thousands of toys in the living room

yes

We went for a 'drill into place and tidy-up the mess in X years time' gate for exactly that reason.

Anyway, news from House Havoc is that little A is going through '4 month sleep regression' (which apparently is a thing...like lots of other things), so I have a very tired and grumpy wife and a moderately tired and grumpy me, just in time for our elder son to start acting up and determinedly not listening! House is slowly resembling a war-zone...the ray of light being A hasn't a clue and keeps giving us her big beaming smiles when she's not grizzling that she doesn't want to be in her cot.

Same Boat as you mate, 12 week scan this week and getting excited.

We caught straight after the missus coming off the pill and with her being late 30's we've read there's a higher chance of Twins so we're double hoping haha

Just welcomed our beautiful second daughter into the world. Another very proud dad!

Mrs had a tough pregnancy, but she did a great job. No big issues, but just one thing after the next. Finished off with suspected onset of pre-eclampsia, meaning delivery by c-section ASAP. Fortunately full term so no problems with doing that.

Anyway, all is well and Mum and baby are doing great with everything seemingly all normal. Just finishing off my graveyard shift feed whilst posting this. biggrin

Still waiting at Maternity Ward.

She's been having contractions, and is just short of 2cm dilated.. Waters will be broken ar around 2-3cm..

The waiting is long, and she's struggling with a back ache she's had for years that's now returned.

That doesn't sound fun. Can you get a masseuse in at all for the back?

Took 3 days on induction for ours before rapidly escalating to an emergency c-section. Don't google in front of your wife but if you can take 5 mins away then have a read about them so you can be calm for your wife it happens.

The success rate of induction is only about 60%. C-section isn't serious, but in emergency ones things happen very quickly.

All the best!

well they usually send you home under 4cm, maybe they would let you both go and chill at home instead for a while?
