What is everyone's technique for learning lines?
I'm WM this year and have my first initiation on Feb 9. I've got the openings, closings, but the O is just not going in at all.
Bricking it a bit

It's different for all of us but for me I break it down into paragraphs, read it over and over again so I understand the meaning then get learning. Repetition is the only way, and speaking out loud. Once you've got the first paragraph down pat then add the second and so on.

Just found this thread....
Shouldn't there be a password leading from the Lounge to this topic ?
Why? Masonry is hardly a state secret and as far as I'm concerned given that the UGLE say this "Members are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry." The a thread like this serves that purpose. As long as no-one is breaking a vow, then a bit of discussion and information is absolutely fine.Shouldn't there be a password leading from the Lounge to this topic ?

I use a very similar technique and make sure I run it through my head multiple times before going to sleep. I then panic as I’ve forgotten half the words, but in the morning they have cemented themselves into my memory. Rinse and repeat. It's different for all of us but for me I break it down into paragraphs, read it over and over again so I understand the meaning then get learning. Hi Ferdi, I'm WM this year and have my first initiation on Feb 9. I've got the openings, closings, but the O is just not going in at all.

I was installed as WM in November and have my first ceremony (a triple 1st) this Friday Night.
Started learning lines middle of December and I went about learning my lines by doing a couple of sentence at a time and repeat to I get them down, then add another two sentences to I complete the passage. I generally try to remember and visualise where certain words are on a page and this acts as a natural prompt If I am struggling but we all learn differently.
Fortunately, I have a decent memory so I already subconsciously knew the opening and closing, so that took a weight off.
Good luck for the 9th.

I’m in my second year running in the chair, everyone thinks I’m brave but you just end up doing the same 1/2/3 ceremonies - easy
Maybe some long closings to mix it up...
I wanted to do the long closings, but DC and GLLO weren't keen. Maybe some long closings to mix it up...
