Parfums Vintage order done, complete with 15% discount.
All arrived today (always been impressed with the speed of delivery by PV). They've chucked in a Rush of Unicorns Extreme sample for free too.

At first sniff, RoU is a very decent Creed Millesime Imperial clone. Definitely worth considering if you're a tight git on a budget.
TBH, if it smells as good (or better) and lasts as well (or better) then is it really worth paying for the Creed name?

I think my recent recommendation of cheap stuff like Bentley shows I'm not that snobby about what's written on the box, it's how it smells (and lasts) that matters most to me. I'd take a great cheap scent over a st brand-name one every time.

Would be interested to hear if it lasts longer, Creed version would be my daily if it lasted more than an hour.

Yep, totally agree. It's why I have RoU and Isla Tropical on my shelf. smile

I'm not sure I'd bother recommending Aventus now knowing about Emperor Extrait. (My wife bought me Aventus as a gift years back (2017 batch), so only really used it for special occasions).

If it stays warm here, I'll give it some use. Might not be perfect for work but never mind.

Speaking of work, went back to the old favourite of YSL Y EDP today and had at least two reception staff go out of their way to compliment me over it. Forget all that niche fancy stuff, good old fashioned people pleasing designer scent FTW. biggrin

I read a lot of reviews as many of them seem to be OK for a bit but then the pump part fails rendering it inoperable for the purpose it was intended. These ones seemed well-reviewed and having tested one myself they seem to work reliably and don't leak:

I agree. Whilst I was previously drawn to the 'excitement' (for want of a better word) of buying something expensive from Creed, Penhaligons or similar, I have since found better value, and better quality, in other brands or clones.

If it lasts well, is good quality, and most importantly the smell is right, it's fine by me.

Just looked at this site. Based in Dubai?

What does the "inspired by Aventus" hehe come to in GBP Inc all costs?
Emperor Extrait is one of their more expensive fragrances: $119 (for 50ml) + $7 delivery.

UK orders get shipped from the UK.

ETA: discount period has now been extended to 8th August.

I had a bottle delivered yesterday and if I'm honest I don't rate it at all.

Smells like Aventus but it lasts literally for 10 minutes and the smell is gone.

Shame as the previous Isla tropical fragrance I got from them was fantastic but this one is a massive disappointment.

Maybe I just got a bad bottle, but with no returns policy means I wasted £90.

Funnily enough, I've got both the Emperor Extrait and the Essence vault clone, both smell like Aventus, and both last about the same amount of time, which isn't very long.

The original Creed Aventus (purchased fromTom) lasted considerably longer imo, but I wouldn't buy again now Tom is no longer around.

I bought 3 clones from ES for £40.00, the Ombre leather, Oud & Aventus clones, the Ombre leather gets the most compliments by far.

The EE for me was quite an expensive disappointment in terms of how long the scent lasts, the actual scent is very good.

Sorry to hear that it sound like you got a duff item. frown I've had no such issues with my Emperor Extrait.

Could it be an element of olfactory fatigue with the Aventus DNA?

I know if I try a new fragrance I will notice it on me a lot longer than something I'm used to. (I've mentioned the Aventus/funeral director story on here before!).

Re the samples I ordered:

- Summer Bottled, inspired by L'Humaniste by Frapin. Actually quite nice, very inoffensive. Fresh opening, quite creamy dry down. How close this is to the OEM item I don't know (which seems not very easy to get hold of anyway). Would consider a whole bottle. Wife approved of this one.

- Alpine Winds, inspired by Creed Silver Mountain Water. Not sure about this one. Not tried SMW so don't know how it compares. SMW is supposed to "evoke the sparkling high-mountain streams of water in the Swiss Alps". I've been to the Alps, don't remember them smelling like this. (As an aside, does the Arctic smell of air freshener - so many of them are 'arctic fresh'!?). Was probably expecting it to smell more fresh. Wife wasn't a fan.

- Evolution De L'Homme Soir, inspired by Roja Dove Elysium. Not tried the OEM so not sure how it compares but this is sickly. Did not like at all. Neither did wife.

- Rush of Unicorns Extreme, inspired by Creed MI. Not as good as the original RoU imo. Lacks that sweetness, seems more dulled if that makes sense. RoU superior.

- X Batch and X Batch Intense, inspired by a cross between Dior Sauvage and Aventus. The regular X Batch is supposed to favour Aventus on dry down, the Intense favours Sauvage. I have Sauvage (EDT iirc) and used it a fair amount in the past, it's ok but it's definitely not in my regular rotation now (Bleu de Chanel is better imo). I think the grapefruit in X Batch makes it much fresher than Sauvage and it's an interesting combination. Of all the samples, X Batch was my wife's favourite. Oddly enough, not a fan of the Intense. There was an odd sickliness to it that I didn't get on with.

Apologies for jumping into the thread, but I thought you chaps would know the answer to this question if anyone does:

Are there any decent-quality aftershaves that are 'cruelty free', ie from companies that don't test on animals?

Since I used up my CK Eternity for Men and Dior Homme I've been trying to find something 'cruelty free' that smells good, but without success.

Thank you.

You’ve quite a few to choose from these days.

At the lower end, Lush apparently make some good scents though personally I haven’t tried them.

Upscale, Le Labo have a great selection.

Left field, Zoologist make some stunning award winning natural scents but they’re not widely available in the UK.

I’m sure there are many others away from the big cosmetic brands. Any that sell to China have to animal test by law so big brands always do some, sadly.

Brilliant, thanks very much - not heard of Le Labo or Zoologist. I'd had a sniff at the Marks & Spencer ones and been underwhelmed.

I ended up going for Acqua Di Gio Profumo.

Really like the fragrance and it is much longer lasting than the Tom Ford.

Very disappointed with the Tom Ford. Not only did the fragrance seem to last about ten minutes but the nozzle on bottle broke so I couldn't actually finish it. If I had bought it from the internet rather than House Of Fraser, the general quality of the product was so low I would be saying that it was probably counterfeit. Given the companies reputation I am really surprised.

I had just about finished the decant of Tom Ford Neroli Portofino which I bought from Tom a few months ago, and had a moment of weakness yesterday while I was in Gun Wharf, which for those who don't know is a discount shopping destination in the fair* city of Portsmouth.

I noticed when passing the Perfume Shop that they sold Tom Ford, so I went in and enquired about the price of 50ml of Neroli Portofino EDT. £89, although if you're prepared to divulge your name, address, email address and give them your first-born child** they'll give you 15% off.

*It isn't

**Not really

I've been wearing Emperor Extrait this morning (applied 6:30am)

Just been out to reception for an admin thing and the receptionist complimented me on the fragrance so that's at least 11hrs performance.

Can't smell it on myself tbf

I think that’s the same with “regular” Creed too, in my experience. Seem to go “nose blind” to it quite quickly, but others might mention it later in the day. I only really notice it if I’m a little warm, as the vanilla comes through.

The Emperor Extrait I’m trying now seems to do the same, and I don’t begrudge not smelling it when it’s half the price of the real thing. biggrin

If your eyes water just because someone has applied some fragrance/perfume/aftershave then I suggest you see an Ophthalmologist.
