I don't get these comedians who go off on weird surreal flights of fancy. Mother in law jokes, that's what I want. Maybe some observational humour. Have you ever noticed how quakers all wear those funny shoes with buckles? Chocolate with fruit in it, what's that all about? Am I right?

Stewart Lee, Paul Merton, Daniel Kitson, Joe Wilkinson...pfft they should learn from the masters like Stan Boardman (the Geeeeermans bombed our chippy laugh), Bernard "" Manning and Roy Chubby "" Brown. People at the ing edge of their art.
I very much enjoyed Stewart lee making jokes about the comedian Chris Moyles on tv last night and I look forward to him mocking the prophet Mohamed in the same way next week.

Yours, Norris McGwirter

That’s what I like

Can we add Peter Kay & McIntyre to your ing edge list? Innovative humour at it's most cerebral.

Anyone mentioned Paul Merton yet?

I stumbled on Have I Got News For You last Christmas when we were staying at some relatives and there was Merton jabbering away about Thatcher and Tory sex scandals. I assumed it must be a repeat or a top 50 of the Best of 1990s Comedy or some such and asked if The Day Today had been on yet. It turned out it was current.

He's been trotting out the same tripe on that stupid programme for a quarter of a century. I gave up on it in about 2001 and assumed it HD quietly died in around 2004.

It's not just his politics, whatever they are, or the fact that he's been flogging that dead horse for a decade and a half after it should have been buried. Ian Hislop rides the same gravy train but he is a genuine intellect with a good sense of humour.

Merton I simply don't get.
i think he has been on that programme only for over a decade. Not done anything else as far as i am aware.
Merton has been there from the first episode, in 1990, and has done a huge amount of work besides HIGNFY.

Mcintyre ....pleaaase No no no

Russell Brand a great advert for using condoms

However, i did see a bit of Dave Gorman the other night and he seemed to hit the spot, not in a ROTFLMAO way but a sort of low chuckle way

Need to see more to see if it was a one off or not

Quite. I can imagine him rubbing along on JSA between HIGNFY series. He seems to be pursuing a career for which he is wholly unsuited.

I quite like Paul Merton, he's very "dead pan" if that makes sense? Best in short doses, i.e. a TV comedy panel show. Seems like he found his niche and knew it.

The worst I've seen live by a huge margin is Tony Law.

It was total car crash humour that just got worse and worse. The more he was falling on his arse the more aggressive he got with the crowd.

He totally pissed off everyone and couldn't even get a chuckle.

Tracy Ullman.
Funny for 10 mins in 1982 or something. Still living off it.

On Last Leg next week.

A classic example of subjectivity, I wouldn’t say that Reginal D. Hunter is fantastic, but if Ii knew that he was going to be on TV, I’d definitely watch, the other object makes me feel queasy just by looking at him, weirdness personified to me, and not a good weird.

Reginald D. Hunter. Mumble, mumble, mumble, pause, grin.

Shame as some of his stuff is quite funny.
