GFS comtinues to show a pretty brutal Arctic incursion for the time of year. Still indicating southern snow on 2nd Nov.

And there it is! First disappointing downgrade of the winter season wink

Cold spell now likely to dig south to our East, and generally we'll miss out. Definitely cooler though, more 'seasonal'.

Cold, cold weekend coming up (compared to recent weeks, that is). First wide-spread snow in northern Scotland is possible:

Cold outlook for the weekend and signals that we are likely to get a Greenland high later in November. This is the holy trail for cold in the UK. Will keep an eye out...

La Niña officially declared. Another building block in place. Signs remain hopeful for a cold end to autumn and early start to winter

UK near the border between warm Atlantic air and cold Arctic air over Scandinavia and Eastern Europe - chance it will bring snow to fairly low levels over Scotland as we move through November, but certainly no promises!

Meanwhile, a 'Medicane' due to form in the Med and head towards Greece/Albania. Anyone off to Corfu...? https://twitter.com/wxcharts/status/93068000513010...

Yep, a generally cloudy and mildish week. 'Mush'.

Some excitement for the weekend, Sunday in particular. General agreement from all the models on a cool patch - some hope for widespread snow (how cold, amounts and location wayyy too far out to predict).

Keep a watch on Saturday. Northern edge of a small low pressure system could bump in to cold air and lead to quite wide snow in midlands/central England/central southern England - probably too warm for much settling, but still fun!

I don't get this. The winds tomorrow evening are forecast to be stronger for us than the recent storms. Yet this low pressure system hasnt been named and despite a yellow wind warning from the Met Office, I'm seeing no fuss about the weather.

Why do we have this every year where a lot of fuss is made about a storm, yet no fuss is made about weather that is worse?

smile
The Irish Met Office take a lot of the blame here. They've been very quick to name some storms which have been pretty inconsequential in the UK.

Next week could see a decent snow fall for Scotland, esp Inverness maybe as far south as Perth.

English and Welsh hills could also see some snow.
Yep - Thursday is looking enticing!

There's nothing particularly special in the forecast for widespread cold or snow, but some very good building blocks that bring plenty of hope as we move towards Xmas.

Things are slowly firming up for next week, a cold northerly wind for sure.

There is potential for some real cold and wide spread snow, but it's just potential at the moment.

Melman, you might want to start composing your 'office closed' email in your head. Next week looking better and better.

Potential is improving - this is not a snow warning yet!

Still hoping for the end of this week. NE coast, East Anglia in particular, but hope for some snow on Friday in the SE.

From Weds next week looking absolutely amazing for cold and snow lovers on all the weather charts - except one (UKMO as usual)... We've been here before, and lost.

No party until tomorrow morning, and it might be cancelled.

At this point, glad I declined a trip to Glasgow on Thursday.

This sums up the rest of the week. Generally not a lot of snow with this kind of setup, except for coastal areas. Requires a bit of a wobble to generate snow for central areas.

So... We now have general agreement on the following:

1) A cold week, with northerly winds- snow along coasts.
2) A slight warm up over the weekend
3) An Arctic blast next week. We're way too far out to predict snow, but the odds continue to improve smile

I'm teasing myself too... Currently charts are upgrading nicely for next week.

Expect some downgrades imminently, otherwise I'll be posting some Sean Bean soon...
